The demand for EVs is increasing day by day in India. Now, Maruti and Hyundai are also working on their upcoming electric cars, which will directly compete with the Tata Punch EV.

The Punch EV, launched earlier in 2024, has already emerged as one of the best-selling electric cars in the country. To counter its growing popularity, Hyundai is preparing to launch the Inster EV, while Maruti is developing the electric version of the Fronx.

So, in this article, we will take a closer look at the features expected in these upcoming EVs.

Hyundai Inster EV

The Hyundai Inster EV is set to redefine the urban electric mobility segment when it makes its way to India by mid-2026. This compact electric SUV is expected to be offered with two battery pack options – 42 kWh and 49 kWh, delivering WLTP-rated ranges of over 300 km and up to 355 km, respectively.

It will be powered by a single electric motor, producing either 97 PS or 115 PS, depending on the variant. Charging options will include 11 kW AC charging as well as fast charging support, which can juice up the battery from 10–80% in just 30 minutes.

Inside, the Inster EV is expected to offer a premium dual 10.25-inch screen setup, ambient lighting, wireless charging, and even Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) support, making it a tech-rich cabin. On the safety front, it may feature six airbags, ADAS functions, and advanced driver aids.

The Hyundai Inster EV is likely to be priced between Rs 9 lakh and Rs 12 lakh (ex-showroom), positioning it as a strong rival to Tata Punch EV.

Maruti Suzuki Fronx EV

Maruti Suzuki is preparing to enter the EV race in India with the Fronx EV, which is expected to debut around 2026. While the company has ambitious plans to launch six new EVs by 2030, the Fronx EV could be its major offering in the affordable electric SUV space.

Reports suggest that the upcoming Fronx EV will deliver an impressive driving range of around 450 km on a single charge, giving it an edge over most entry-level EV rivals. In terms of design, the EV will look similar to the current ICE-powered Fronx but with some distinct EV elements like a closed front grille, redesigned DRLs, and new alloy wheels.

The cabin details are yet to be revealed, but it is expected to carry forward a similar dashboard layout with some EV-specific updates.

The Fronx EV is expected to be priced from Rs 8 lakh to Rs 10 lakh (ex-showroom), making it one of the most affordable long-range EVs in India upon launch.
