Maruti Suzuki Jimny Sets a New Export Record, Huge Shipment in Just 2 Years?

Maruti Suzuki Jimny Sets a New Export Record

Maruti Suzuki’s rugged off-roader, the Jimny 5-door, has achieved a major milestone by crossing the 1 lakh export mark within just two years.

Despite its limited success in the Indian market, where sales reached only 27,812 units since its launch on July 7, 2023, the Jimny has become a strong performer internationally.

Its rising global demand reflects the SUV’s growing reputation for reliability, compact design, and off-road capabilities, making it one of Maruti Suzuki’s most successful export models in recent years.

Since exports began in 2023, the India-made Maruti Suzuki Jimny 5-door has found buyers in over 100 countries. This compact off-roader is shipped to key global markets like Japan, Mexico, Australia, South Africa, and Chile.

In Japan alone, the SUV received over 50,000 bookings within days of its January 2025 launch. However, its performance in India tells a different story domestic sales have been declining, with just 296 units sold in September compared to 603 units in August.

Why Limited Sale of Jimny in India?

One of the main reasons for the Maruti Jimny’s limited success in the Indian market is its low fuel efficiency. In tests, the manual version delivered a mileage of 12.8 km/l, while the automatic version offered just 11.8 km/l. Besides that, its boxy design hasn’t appealed much to Indian buyers.

In India this off-roading SUV has been priced from Rs 12.32 lakh (ex-showroom), the Jimny competes with rivals like the Mahindra Thar Roxx and Force Gurkha in the off-road SUV segment.
