Volkswagen ID. Polo GTI Revealed As Brand’s First Electric GTI
Volkswagen has officially revealed the new ID. Polo GTI, and it is one of the brand’s biggest steps into the electric future. This is the first fully electric car to wear the famous GTI badge, which has been part of Volkswagen’s performance lineup for nearly 50 years.
The new electric hot hatch combines sporty styling, strong performance, modern technology, and everyday practicality in one package. With this model, Volkswagen wants to prove that electric cars can still deliver the fun driving experience GTI fans expect.
The ID. Polo GTI will mainly target European markets and is expected to go on sale in 2026.

Sporty Design Keeps The GTI Character Alive
The new ID. Polo GTI gets a sharp and sporty design that clearly separates it from the standard ID. Polo. The front features slim LED headlights, aggressive bumpers, red GTI accents, and a sporty illuminated grille section.
Volkswagen has also added large 19-inch alloy wheels, a roof spoiler, and a redesigned rear diffuser to give the hatchback a more performance-focused look.
Even though it is an EV, the car still carries the classic GTI identity through its sporty proportions and clean design language. The company says the design is inspired by previous GTI models while also preparing the brand for the electric era.
Cabin Focuses On Technology And Driver Experience
Inside, the ID. Polo GTI gets a modern cabin filled with digital technology and sporty touches. The dashboard features a large infotainment screen along with a digital driver display that can show retro GTI-inspired graphics.
Volkswagen has also included sporty seats with tartan-style fabric patterns, red stitching, and a GTI-specific driving mode. Physical controls for climate functions have been added as well, which many customers wanted after complaints about touch-only systems in earlier ID models.
The hatchback also offers a practical cabin with good rear-seat space and a large boot, making it suitable for daily driving.
Electric Powertrain Delivers Strong Performance
The ID. Polo GTI is powered by a front-mounted electric motor producing around 226 PS and 290 Nm of torque. Volkswagen claims the electric hatchback can sprint from 0-100 km/h in about 6.8 seconds, making it one of the quickest small GTI models yet.
The car uses a 52 kWh battery pack and offers a WLTP driving range of up to 424 km on a full charge. Fast charging support is also included, allowing the battery to charge from 10 to 80 percent in around 24 minutes.
Volkswagen has also equipped the car with adaptive suspension, a front differential lock, and sport-tuned steering for better cornering performance.

Volkswagen Begins A New Electric GTI Era
The ID. Polo GTI is an important model for Volkswagen because it starts a completely new chapter for the GTI brand. Instead of using the GTX badge for sporty EVs, Volkswagen is now bringing the iconic GTI name into the electric world. The company believes future performance EVs should still feel exciting and emotional to drive, even without petrol engines.
The new electric GTI will compete with models like the Alpine A290 and Mini JCW Electric in Europe. While the car is not expected to launch in the United States, it could become one of Volkswagen’s most important electric performance cars globally in the coming years.
