BMW i5 LWB launched at Rs 79.6 lakh: What’s New?

BMW has launched the new i5 Long Wheelbase (LWB) in India at Rs 79.6 lakh (ex-showroom), bringing a more spacious electric luxury sedan to the Indian market. The i5 LWB is the first locally produced electric sedan from BMW India and is assembled at the company’s Chennai plant.

With its extended wheelbase, premium rear-seat experience and claimed range of up to 669km, the new electric sedan targets buyers looking for luxury, comfort and long-distance usability in an EV.

BMW i5 LWB: Design, Features and Powertrain

The BMW i5 LWB measures 5,175mm in length and gets a 3,105mm wheelbase, making it one of the largest cars in its segment. The extended dimensions primarily benefit rear-seat passengers by offering additional legroom and a more spacious cabin.

The sedan also features an illuminated BMW kidney grille, 20-inch M alloy wheels and a panoramic glass roof. Inside, it gets a premium cabin with advanced connectivity and rear-seat comfort-focused equipment. The First Edition, limited to 99 units, additionally gets a dedicated rear-seat entertainment package with a tablet and tablet holder, along with exclusive interior trim and exterior detailing.

Powering the BMW i5 LWB is an 81.6kWh battery pack paired with a 268hp electric motor. The electric sedan can accelerate from 0-100kph in 6.7 seconds and offers a claimed MIDC range of up to 669km on a single charge. BMW has also equipped the India-spec model with adaptive rear-axle air suspension and increased ground clearance to better handle Indian road conditions.
