Land Rover Defender Pickup Reportedly in the Works for the US: What We Know

Recent industry reports suggest that Jaguar Land Rover could soon enter the lucrative US pickup truck market with a new Land Rover Defender pickup.

This reported project stems directly from the JLR Stellantis partnership, following a non-binding memorandum of understanding signed in May 2026 to explore North American product and technology development.

However, both automakers have not yet officially confirmed the Defender pickup truck or its final production plans.

Land Rover Defender: Defender Pickup Plans

Current media reports indicate that JLR wants to expand the Defender family with a dedicated Land Rover pickup truck. The company aims to target the Defender pickup US market. Stellantis will likely support local development and assembly using its US facilities.

Why Build It in the US?

Local manufacturing will help JLR avoid heavy US import duties on light trucks. Currently, JLR imports its entire lineup into the US. Local assembly of the Land Rover US pickup will strengthen brand presence and ensure competitive pricing.

Land Rover Defender: Design and Platform

The proposed Land Rover Defender truck will likely borrow iconic design cues from the standard Defender SUV. However, official chassis, suspension, body style, and platform details remain completely unknown at this stage.

Engine and Features

JLR has not released official Defender pickup specifications or powertrain options. It remains unclear whether the model will feature petrol, hybrid, or electric powertrains.

Rivals and Market Position

If the Defender pickup launch materialises, the vehicle will enter the premium US pickup segment. Depending on its final size, it could compete with luxury trims of the Ford F-150, GMC Sierra, and Ram 1500.

India Launch

Currently, reports focus exclusively on North America. There is no official information regarding a Defender pickup price or an India launch.
