Tata Motors has made an impressive start to 2026 by reporting a 47.1 percent year-on-year increase in sales for January. The company sold a total of 71,066 vehicles, marking its best-ever monthly sales performance.
Most of the growth came from the Indian market. Tata Motors sold 70,222 vehicles in India, which is 46.1 percent higher than the 48,076 units sold in January last year. Exports also improved significantly, with 844 units shipped overseas, compared to just 240 units in the same month last year.

Electric Vehicles Continue to Gain Momentum
Electric vehicle sales remained a major highlight for Tata Motors. The company sold 9,052 EVs in January 2026, including domestic and export numbers. This represents a 72.7 percent growth compared to January 2025, strengthening Tata Motors’ leadership in India’s EV market.

Top-Selling Models Drive Volumes
Several Tata models delivered record-breaking numbers during the month:
Tata Nexon achieved its highest monthly sales ever with over 23,000 units sold and crossed the 10-lakh total sales milestone.
Tata Punch recorded its best performance with more than 19,000 units sold, entering the 7-lakh cumulative sales club in just over four years.
Tata Tiago also crossed the 7-lakh sales mark, continuing its strong demand among hatchback buyers.
Recently launched and updated models such as the Tata Sierra and the petrol versions of Harrier and Safari also supported overall sales, with production being increased to meet customer demand.
Positive Outlook for 2026
Tata Motors’ strong January performance highlights growing customer confidence in the brand. With high demand across SUVs, hatchbacks, and electric vehicles, the company is well-placed to continue its growth momentum throughout 2026.
