Volvo Cars India has officially discontinued the Volvo S90 luxury sedan, marking the end of an era for the Swedish automaker’s only sedan offering in the country.
The move comes as part of Volvo’s strategic shift toward an SUV-only lineup, aligning with evolving market trends and consumer preferences.
So, In this article lets know why company had discontinued this luxury car despite of its unique features.

Launched in 2021 and Discontinued Early!
The Volvo S90 was first introduced in India in 2021, positioned as a premium alternative to rivals like the Mercedes-Benz E-Class and BMW 5 Series. It was offered in a single, fully-loaded B5 Inscription trim, and had recently received a facelift with sharper styling, updated interiors, and new tech features.
Despite the refresh, the S90 struggled to keep pace with newer competitors in terms of powertrain options and infotainment tech, leading to a gradual decline in sales.
The primary reason behind the S90’s discontinuation is Volvo’s SUV-centric strategy in India. With SUVs dominating the luxury car market, Volvo has decided to focus entirely on its XC range and upcoming electric SUVs. The S90 has also been delisted from the brand’s official website, confirming its exit.
Globally, Volvo has already introduced updated versions of the S90, including plug-in hybrid and all-electric ES90 variants. However, there’s no official word on whether these will make it to Indian shores.
