The list of finalists for the 2026 World Car of the Year Awards has been officially revealed, highlighting some of the most impressive new cars from global manufacturers.
A panel of 98 automotive journalists from 33 countries selected the top contenders based on design, technology, performance and overall value.
The final winners will be announced on April 1, 2026, at the New York International Auto Show.
Top Cars Competing for the Title
This year’s shortlist features a wide range of SUVs, electric cars and hybrid models. The finalists include the Audi Q5/SQ5, BMW iX3, BYD Seal 6 DM-i, Hyundai Ioniq 9, Hyundai Palisade, Kia EV4, Kia EV5, Mercedes-Benz CLA, Nissan Leaf and Toyota RAV4.
These vehicles were chosen from a large pool of new launches for their strong performance and innovation.
Electric and Hybrid Models Dominate
Electric and hybrid cars have taken center stage in the 2026 awards. Fully electric models like the BMW iX3, Hyundai Ioniq 9 and Kia EV series show the growing focus on clean mobility.
At the same time, hybrid options such as the BYD Seal 6 DM-i and Mercedes-Benz CLA reflect how carmakers are balancing efficiency with performance. The final results are now eagerly awaited.
