2027 Hyundai Elantra Unveiled: What’s New In Design, Features, Engine And Technology?

Hyundai has officially taken the wraps off its highly anticipated, eighth-generation 2027 Hyundai Elantra at the Busan Mobility Show in South Korea (where it is traditionally badged as the Avante).

This completely redesigned model represents a monumental leap forward for the nameplate, ditching the polarizing, ultra-sharp creases of the previous generation in favor of a sophisticated, retro-futuristic silhouette.

Aimed at shaking up the global compact sedan segment, the eighth-generation model is packed with larger dimensions, cutting-edge software, and heavily optimized hybrid hardware. It is slated to debut across international markets as a 2027 model-year offering.

2027 Hyundai Elantra: Exterior Design

The new 2027 Hyundai Elantra introduces the brand’s latest “Art of Steel” design philosophy, resulting in a vehicle that looks drastically more premium, muscular, and clean.

Up front, the sedan receives a completely revamped look inspired by Hyundai’s modern electric vehicle aesthetic. It features a split-headlamp configuration where ultra-slim, full-width LED daytime running lights run across the upper lip, while the primary high- and low-beam headlamps are tucked lower into a sharply contoured, blacked-out front bumper.

Moving to the side profile, Hyundai has mostly abandoned the aggressive, multi-angled metal creases that made the old car look a bit busy. Instead, the 2027 iteration relies on smoother, classier body panel surfacing accented by heavily flared wheel arches and a flat-topped, sweeping roofline.

It also has flush-fitting door handles, distinct triangular rear quarter glass, freshly styled 18-inch dual-tone, and five-spoke alloy wheels complete the stance.

The rear architecture scales back the previous car’s sharp folds while retaining a sporty, inward-cut trunk lid. It features an integrated ducktail-esque rear spoiler, distinctive T-shaped vertical LED light signatures at the extreme outer edges, and detached horizontal LED strips sweeping across the tailgate. Hyundai showcased the initial vehicle with six distinct exterior color options.

2027 Hyundai Elantra: Powertrain

2027 Hyundai Elantra retains practical, naturally aspirated choices while heavily emphasizing a brand-new, highly intelligent hybrid system.

Standard Petrol Engine: For the standard gasoline variants, the sedan carries forward its reliable 2.0-litre inline four-cylinder engine. It generates 147 horsepower and 132 lb-ft of torque, coupled with an Intelligent Variable Transmission (IVT) for reliable, smooth daily commuting.

Upgraded Hybrid Powertrain: The Hyundai Elantra hybrid variant steps up with a comprehensively revised 1.6-litre gasoline engine paired with a dual-motor electric setup. This combination punches out a healthier 157 horsepower (a notable 16 hp boost over the older hybrid) and delivers 195 lb-ft of torque.

Cabin, Technology, and Premium Features

The 2027 Hyundai Elantra interior completely shakes up its dashboard layout, transitioning into a truly software-defined vehicle with an inviting, lounge-like vibe.

Hyundai has split up the traditional side-by-side screen enclosure. Instead, the driver looks over a sleek, simplified 9.9-inch digital instrument cluster sitting on its own high island near the base of the windshield to preserve natural sightlines. The focal point of the dashboard is a massive 14.6-inch central infotainment touchscreen running the brand’s all-new Pleos Connect interface.

Based on an Android Automotive operating system, it includes a dedicated built-in app store and introduces Gleo AI. (a generative AI voice assistant capable of handling continuous, natural speech to manage navigation, adjust settings, or provide travel trivia).

On the safety front, the eighth-generation sedan sets a high benchmark by packing 10 standard airbags and an expansive Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) suite.

Standout upgrades include Navigation-based Smart Cruise Control 2, which proactively slows the car down for upcoming speed limits, curves, and intersections, and Pedal Misuse Safety Assist, which intervenes to apply the brakes if it detects panic-induced pedal errors in tight parking situations.

International base pricing is expected to sit within the USD 26,000 to USD 30,000 bracket depending on the choice of powertrain and trim level.
