Hyundai Motor India May 2026 Sales Report: Domestic Sales Rise 9%, Creta And Venue Continue Strong Run

Hyundai Motor India Limited has long maintained its reputation as a massive powerhouse in the Indian passenger vehicle market, known for bringing premium design, refined engines, and cutting-edge features to mainstream buyers.

However, maintaining a top position has never been tougher, with the brand facing intense, continuous competition from Maruti Suzuki, Tata Motors, and a rapidly growing Mahindra & Mahindra. Navigating a changing landscape in the FY2026-27 fiscal year, the South Korean automaker has relied heavily on its highly popular SUV lineup to anchor its numbers.

Hyundai Motor India has officially released its wholesale performance metrics for May 2026. The data reveals that the brand achieved healthy year-on-year growth during the month, safely absorbing a standard month-on-month contraction following a record-breaking performance in April.

Hyundai Motor India May 2026 Sales Performance

According to the official factory dispatch sheets, Hyundai’s multi-segment product portfolio delivered steady volumes through both its domestic and global retail pipelines.

  • Domestic Sales (May 2026): 47,837 units

  • Domestic Sales (May 2025): 43,857 units

  • Year-on-Year (YoY) Growth: 9.1%

  • Domestic Sales (April 2026): 51,902 units

  • Month-on-Month (MoM) Change: -7.8%

Beyond local borders, Hyundai shipped out 13,300 units in Export Sales for May 2026. Compared to the 14,841 vehicles exported in May 2025, international dispatches dipped by 10.4%.

When adding these segments together, Hyundai’s combined Total Sales for May 2026 stood at 61,137 units, representing a 4.15% YoY increase over the 58,701 units recorded in May 2025.

These numbers show that while global export channels are facing minor headwinds, Hyundai’s core domestic demand stays thoroughly secure, helping the manufacturer protect its massive share of the Indian automotive market.

Registering a solid 9.1% growth in domestic wholesale dispatches is a significant achievement, especially given the challenging conditions currently surrounding the auto sector.

The mid-size and compact SUV spaces have become highly crowded, with rival brands rolling out aggressive updates and heavy discounts to attract attention. Additionally, rising fuel prices have made a large number of buyers cost-conscious, forcing carmakers to work harder to justify premium pricing.

Hyundai has successfully weathered these macro headwinds by keeping its premium brand image intact. Rather than relying on deep dealer-level discounts, the carmaker has seen steady consumer traction due to high cabin comfort, advanced safety features, and a wide variety of powertrain choices (including Petrol, Diesel, and Electric).

This balanced packaging ensures that family car buyers continue to view Hyundai as a highly reliable choice, cementing its status as one of India’s strongest and most trusted automotive passenger vehicle brands.

Month-On-Month Sales Decline Explained

While the Year-on-Year numbers look completely healthy, a sequential glance shows that Hyundai’s domestic wholesale numbers dropped from 51,902 units in April 2026 to 47,837 units in May 2026, registering a 7.8% MoM decline.

This minor dip is a standard industry trend rather than a cause for concern. April 2026 was a historic milestone for the company, logging Hyundai’s highest-ever April domestic sales performance on record.

Export Performance Faces Pressure

In contrast to its thriving domestic run, Hyundai’s international export business faced visible pressure in May 2026. Shipments dropped to 13,300 units, marking a clear 10.4% YoY decline compared to May 2025’s export baseline of 14,841 units.
