Ducati DesertX: Design and Dimension

The second-gen DesertX carries forward its Dakar-inspired design but with a leaner, more purposeful profile and a host of practical updates. Ducati has built it around a new aluminium monocoque frame that uses the engine as a structural member, reducing overall bulk and increasing rigidity.

The bike rides on 21-inch front and 18-inch rear tubeless spoked wheels fitted with Pirelli Scorpion Rally tyres, while ergonomics have been refined with rear-set footpegs and a slightly forward-moved seat and handlebars for better rider control on trail and highway alike.

A slimmer 18-litre fuel tank lowers the centre of gravity for improved handling.

Ducati DesertX: Engine and Performance

The new DesertX is powered by Ducati’s latest 890 cc V-twin engine, producing a claimed 110 hp and 92 Nm of torque — figures unchanged from the outgoing model but delivered more usefully at lower revs. Ducati says 70 % of peak torque is available from as low as 3,000 rpm, enhancing tractability in rough terrain.

The engine’s gear ratios have been re-tuned with shorter lower gears for technical off-road riding and a taller top gear for relaxed highway cruising.

Hardware under the DesertX’s body underscores its dual-terrain intentions. Up front, a fully adjustable 46 mm KYB upside-down fork with 230 mm of travel handles impacts from rocks and ruts, while a KYB monoshock with full-floater progressive linkage offers 220 mm of rear travel for controlled damping off-road.

Braking duties are managed by Brembo M4.32 monobloc calipers biting into dual 305 mm discs up front, paired with a refined master cylinder for better lever feel and modulation.
