BYD Unveils Next-Generation Blade Battery With Ultra-Fast Flash Charging Technology

BYD Atto 2 in works

Chinese EV manufacturer BYD has introduced its next-generation Blade Battery along with a new Flash Charging system, representing a major step forward in electric vehicle technology.

The updated battery promises significantly faster charging speeds, improved efficiency, and higher safety compared to the current generation.

According to the company, electric vehicles equipped with this new system can charge from 10% to around 90% in just about nine minutes, which is close to the time required to refuel a conventional petrol vehicle.

One of the biggest highlights of the new battery system is its extremely fast charging capability. The second-generation Blade Battery can charge from 10% to 70% in roughly five minutes, while charging from 10% to nearly full can take around nine minutes under ideal conditions.

This rapid charging is made possible by BYD’s Flash Charging technology, which uses a 1,000-volt high-voltage platform. The company has also developed powerful charging units capable of delivering up to 1,500 kW of charging power. These chargers feature a unique design with dual charging guns, allowing them to deliver very high power levels to compatible electric vehicles.

Higher Energy Density And Better Efficiency

Apart from faster charging, the new Blade Battery also offers improved energy density, which allows electric vehicles to travel longer distances on a single charge. The latest battery reportedly delivers around 5 percent higher energy density compared with the previous version.

With this improvement, future electric vehicles equipped with the battery could potentially achieve driving ranges of up to around 1,000 km depending on the vehicle and battery configuration.

Improved Performance In Extreme Conditions

BYD has also worked on improving the battery’s performance in extreme weather conditions. The company claims that the updated Blade Battery maintains strong charging performance even in colder environments.

Under low-temperature conditions, the battery can still charge from 20% to nearly full in around 12 minutes, ensuring reliable performance in different climates.

Expansion Of Flash Charging Network

To support the new battery technology, BYD is planning to develop a large Flash Charging infrastructure network. The company aims to install around 20,000 flash charging stations, including approximately 2,000 stations along major highways.

These stations are designed with integrated energy storage systems to manage high power demand and ensure stable charging performance.

Future BYD Models To Get The Technology

Several upcoming BYD electric vehicles are expected to use the next-generation Blade Battery and Flash Charging system.

Future models from the brand’s sub-brands and premium lineup will gradually adopt this technology as BYD continues to expand its EV portfolio.
