MG To Unveil New Plug-In Hybrid SUV On July 16: Could This Be The Brand’s Most Important Launch Yet?
JSW MG Motor India is preparing to enter a new segment with the debut of its first plug-in hybrid SUV on July 16, 2026. The upcoming model is expected to be a new-energy vehicle that combines the benefits of electric driving with the convenience of a petrol engine.
While MG has not officially revealed the vehicle’s identity, reports suggest it could be based on the globally sold Wuling Starlight 560 PHEV.
The launch is significant because it marks MG’s entry into India’s mass-market plug-in hybrid segment, which currently has very limited options for buyers seeking extended range and lower fuel consumption.

Expected Design And Dimensions Of MG SUV
The upcoming MG plug-in hybrid SUV is expected to feature a bold and upright SUV design with a strong road presence. International versions of the Wuling-based model get sleek LED headlamps, a large front grille, rugged body cladding, roof rails, and stylish alloy wheels.
At the rear, wraparound LED taillamps and a roof-mounted spoiler add to the modern appearance. The SUV is expected to measure around 4,745 mm in length, making it larger than many midsize SUVs currently sold in India.
A long wheelbase and tall stance should help maximize passenger comfort and cabin space.

Expected Powertrain And Range
The biggest highlight of the new MG SUV is likely to be its plug-in hybrid powertrain. Internationally, the model uses a 1.5-litre petrol engine paired with a 20.5 kWh battery pack and an electric motor. The combined output stands at around 195-197 hp, delivering strong performance while maintaining excellent efficiency.
The SUV is claimed to offer an electric-only driving range of approximately 100-125 km, while the total driving range exceeds 1,000 km when the petrol engine and battery work together.
Such figures could make it one of the most practical long-distance SUVs in its segment.
Expected Cabin And Features
The new MG SUV is expected to offer a spacious and technology-rich cabin. International versions feature a 12.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, an 8.8-inch digital instrument cluster, leatherette upholstery, powered front seats, ventilated seats, wireless phone charging, and automatic climate control.
A panoramic sunroof and connected-car technology are also likely to be part of the package. Safety features could include six airbags, electronic stability control, tyre pressure monitoring system, hill hold assist, a 360-degree camera, and an Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) suite.
The SUV may also offer both 5-seat and 7-seat layouts.
