Skoda Octavia Becomes First Model to Get Strong Hybrid Powertrain
Skoda has introduced its first strong-hybrid powertrain with the Skoda Octavia in international markets. The new Skoda Octavia strong hybrid combines a 1.5-litre TSI evo2 petrol engine with two electric motors and a 1.6kWh battery.
The system can run the car in electric, series-hybrid and parallel-hybrid modes. Unlike a plug-in hybrid, the battery does not need an external charger. Skoda will offer the new powertrain with both liftback and estate body styles.
Skoda Octavia Strong Hybrid: Engine and Power
The new Octavia strong hybrid comes with two system power options. The entry version produces 100kW, equivalent to around 136PS, while the more powerful version develops 125kW or around 170PS. Both versions use the same electric motors, while the petrol engine gets different power outputs. Skoda has electronically limited the top speed of both versions to 180kmph.
The hybrid system uses a single-speed automatic transmission and an automatic clutch. One electric motor mainly works as a generator and helps start the petrol engine, while the larger traction motor drives the front wheels. The system can recover energy through regenerative braking and can also power the car on electricity alone for short distances.
Skoda Octavia Strong Hybrid Features
The new hybrid version gets a 13-inch infotainment screen and a 10-inch Virtual Cockpit as standard. It also carries a HYBRID badge on the tailgate. The battery sits beneath the rear seats, while the petrol tank has a 40-litre capacity.
Skoda will offer the Octavia strong hybrid in Selection and Sportline trims. Orders will open in October 2026, with first customer deliveries planned for December 2026. Skoda has not announced an India launch for the strong-hybrid Octavia yet.
