New Tata Altroz Spied Testing Again: Flex-Fuel E85 Hatchback Or Altroz Racer Turbo?
A heavily camouflaged Tata Altroz test mule has been spotted testing on Indian roads once again, creating fresh speculation about Tata Motors’ future plans for its premium hatchback. The latest sighting comes at a time when the company is actively working on alternative fuel technologies and expanding its performance-oriented vehicle portfolio.
While Tata Motors has not officially revealed the identity of the test vehicle, industry observers believe it could either be an E85-compatible flex-fuel version of the Altroz or an updated Altroz Racer Turbo. Both possibilities appear plausible, especially considering Tata’s recent focus on ethanol-powered vehicles and sporty variants.
The company has already showcased flex-fuel technology at the Bharat Mobility Expo and confirmed plans to launch its first flex-fuel passenger vehicle by late 2026 or early 2027, making this latest Tata Altroz testing sighting particularly significant.

Is Tata Working On An Altroz Flex-Fuel E85 Version?
One of the strongest possibilities is that Tata Motors is testing a flex-fuel version of the Altroz. The company has already confirmed that it intends to launch a flex-fuel passenger vehicle in India by late 2026 or early 2027.
India’s push towards higher ethanol blending has encouraged manufacturers to develop engines capable of running on fuels containing significantly higher ethanol content. An E85-compatible Tata Altroz would be able to operate on fuel containing up to 85 percent ethanol.
Technical Insight: Developing a flex-fuel vehicle requires critical modifications to several components, including fuel injectors, fuel lines, engine seals, and specialized ECU calibration to handle the corrosive nature and different combustion properties of ethanol.
Could This Be The Altroz Racer Turbo?
Another exciting possibility is that Tata is working on a revised version of the Altroz Racer to regain ground in the hot-hatch segment.
Current Setup: The pre-facelift Altroz Racer utilized a 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine producing around 120hp, paired with a 6-speed manual transmission.
The Upgrade Strategy: Tata could be testing improvements to the engine calibration, suspension setup, or introducing a much-awaited automatic variant (like the 7-speed DCA) to square off directly against rivals such as the Hyundai i20 N Line.
Given the growing demand for sporty hatchbacks in India, a revived, feature-packed Altroz Racer makes perfect strategic sense.
Expected Features And Technology
Whether it is a sustainable flex-fuel model or an updated Racer variant, the upcoming Tata Altroz will continue to leverage its reputation as one of the most feature-rich hatchbacks in its segment.
Infotainment & Cabin Tech: A 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and a fully digital instrument cluster with navigation mirroring.
Comfort & Convenience: Ventilated front seats, a voice-assisted sunroof, wireless charging, automatic climate control, and ambient lighting.
Safety & Assist: A 360-degree camera system, electronic stability control (ESC), and multiple drive modes.
Engine Options Currently Available On Tata Altroz
The Altroz currently boasts one of the most diverse powertrain lineups in the premium hatchback category: 1.2-litre Naturally Aspirated Petrol (Available with Manual & DCA), 1.2-litre iCNG (Featuring Tata’s twin-cylinder tech), and 1.5-litre Diesel (A unique offering remaining in this segment).
Expected Launch Timeline & Rivals
Since the test vehicle appears close to production specification, an official announcement could arrive within the coming months. If this is the flex-fuel model, Tata could officially unveil it before the end of 2026. An updated Altroz Racer Turbo, however, could potentially hit the showrooms even sooner to catch the festive season demand.
Once launched, the new variant will strengthen the Altroz’s position against its chief rivals in the premium hatchback segment: Maruti Suzuki Baleno, Toyota Glanza, and Hyundai i20 & i20 N Line.
