Hyundai Bayon 1.5L Petrol Engine, IVT Details Revealed Ahead of India Launch

Hyundai is preparing to launch the Hyundai Bayon in India on October 26, 2026. Ahead of its launch, the carmaker has revealed key details about the SUV’s powertrain and transmission options.

The Hyundai Bayon will sit between the Venue and Creta in the company’s SUV range and will target buyers looking for a feature-rich midsize SUV. The India-spec model will use a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine as its sole powertrain at launch.

Hyundai will offer the engine with both a six-speed manual gearbox and an Intelligent Variable Transmission (IVT). Bookings are already open for Rs. 11,000 through Hyundai dealerships and its official website.

Hyundai Bayon Design and Features

The Hyundai Bayon gets the company’s latest Art of Steel design language and carries a more upright SUV stance. The front features a wide grille, connected lighting elements and a distinctive LED lighting signature. The SUV also gets a sculpted bonnet and sharp character lines that give it a more muscular appearance.

At the rear, Hyundai uses vertically oriented lighting elements and a prominent tailgate design. The Bayon will also offer 10 exterior colour options, including monotone, dual-tone and matte finishes. Inside, the biggest highlight comes in the form of dual 12.3-inch curved displays for the digital instrument cluster and infotainment system.

The SUV also gets Hyundai Bluelink connected technology and advanced voice-assistance features.

Hyundai Bayon Engine and Transmission

The Hyundai Bayon will use a 1.5-litre MPi naturally aspirated four-cylinder petrol engine. The engine develops 115 PS and 143.8 Nm of peak torque. Hyundai will offer two transmission choices: a six-speed manual and an Intelligent Variable Transmission (IVT). The automatic version gets additional technology designed to improve acceleration response.

Dash Boost Mode provides a quicker response when the driver needs stronger acceleration, particularly during overtaking. The IVT also gets Sporty Drive technology for a more direct acceleration feel.

Hyundai will offer three drive modes: Eco, Normal and Sport. Paddle shifters will also be available with the IVT version, allowing the driver to control transmission response from the steering wheel.

Hyundai Bayon Technology and Safety

The Bayon will bring a strong technology package to the segment. Hyundai will equip the SUV with a dual-screen digital cockpit, more than 70 Bluelink connected features and over-the-air updates.

It will also become the first Hyundai model in India to feature the company’s Generative AI Voice Assistant, which uses technology from Perplexity and SoundHound AI. On the safety front, the Bayon gets Hyundai SmartSense Level 2 Pro ADAS with 23 advanced driver assistance functions.

The package includes forward collision avoidance, lane keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring, adaptive cruise control and highway driving assistance. The SUV also gets six airbags, electronic stability control, a surround-view monitor and all-wheel disc brakes.

Hyundai Bayon Price and Rivals

Hyundai will announce the Bayon’s prices on October 26. The SUV is expected to start around Rs. 9 lakh and could go up to around Rs. 14 lakh (ex-showroom). It will compete with the Maruti Suzuki Victoris, Kia Seltos and other midsize SUVs in India.
