Hyundai Bayon CNG Will Offer These Features: Full Details Leaked Ahead of Launch

Hyundai is preparing to expand the Bayon lineup with a CNG version, which is scheduled to arrive in India in January 2027. The upcoming Hyundai Bayon CNG will use the existing 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine with a factory-fitted CNG system.

The biggest highlight could be its underbody CNG tank arrangement, which should help preserve the SUV’s 505-litre boot space. The Bayon CNG will also retain the SUV’s modern design, premium cabin and long list of safety and technology features.

It will become Hyundai’s largest India-spec model to offer a CNG powertrain.

Hyundai Bayon CNG Design

The Hyundai Bayon CNG is expected to retain the same exterior design as the petrol version. The SUV follows Hyundai’s latest ‘Art of Steel’ design language with a sculpted bonnet, sharp character lines and muscular body surfaces.

At the front, it gets slim LED daytime running lights and lower-mounted LED projector headlamps, along with Hyundai’s distinctive H-Edge lighting signature. The SUV also features black body cladding, roof rails and 17-inch alloy wheels.

Since the CNG system is expected to use an underbody tank arrangement, Hyundai is unlikely to make major exterior changes to accommodate the gas system. The overall design should therefore remain identical to the petrol Bayon.

The Hyundai Bayon CNG will use the same 1.5-litre, four-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine available with the petrol model. In petrol form, this engine produces 115 PS and 144 Nm.

However, the CNG version is expected to deliver slightly lower power and torque, with reports suggesting around 100 PS and 125 Nm. The CNG model is likely to use a six-speed manual gearbox, while the availability of an automatic transmission remains unclear.

The biggest highlight will be its CNG packaging. Hyundai is expected to use an underbody or under-boot tank arrangement to avoid taking away significant boot space. This approach will make the Bayon CNG more practical for daily use.

Hyundai Bayon CNG Cabin and Safety Features

The Bayon CNG is expected to retain the petrol model’s feature-rich cabin. Its dashboard gets dual 12.3-inch screens for the instrument cluster and infotainment system, along with connected-car technology and Hyundai’s generative AI voice assistant.

The SUV also gets navigation, OTA updates, split-screen functionality and multi-language support. Safety equipment includes six airbags, electronic stability control, hill-start assist, tyre pressure monitoring, ISOFIX child-seat mounts and rear parking sensors.

Higher variants also offer an advanced ADAS package with multiple driver-assistance functions. The CNG version should retain most of these features, although Hyundai may restrict some equipment to specific variants.

Hyundai Bayon CNG Price and Rivals

The Hyundai Bayon currently starts at Rs. 9.99 lakh and goes up to Rs. 17.99 lakh, ex-showroom. The CNG version should command a premium over equivalent petrol variants. Its main rivals will include the Maruti Suzuki Victoris CNG, Maruti Grand Vitara CNG and Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder CNG.
