BMW is Planning to Launch its BMW M 1000 RS in 2027, Expected Features Here

Premium motorcycle maker BMW is planning to introduce its updated high-performance sport bike, the BMW M 1000 RS, in the global market next year. Once launched, it will become the brand’s first RS motorcycle to use an inline-four engine.

The upcoming model is expected to expand BMW’s M motorcycle lineup while offering a unique blend of performance and touring comfort. So, let’s take a look at the features we expect from this upcoming motorcycle.

BMW M 1000 RS Likely to Share Engine with M 1000 RR

Recent emissions filings indicate that the BMW M 1000 RS and the M 1000 RR are listed under the same certification. This strongly suggests that both motorcycles will use the same 999cc inline-four-cylinder engine.

The engine is expected to produce 205 hp at 13,000 rpm and 113 Nm of peak torque, matching the output of the current M 1000 RR.

While the engine may be shared with the M 1000 RR, the M 1000 RS is expected to have a different purpose.

BMW has traditionally used the RS (Reise Sport) name for its sport-touring motorcycles. These models are designed to offer a balance of long-distance comfort and sporty performance. Existing RS motorcycles, such as the R 1300 RS, use boxer-twin engines.

If launched, the BMW M 1000 RS will become the first RS motorcycle in the company’s history to use an inline-four engine.

BMW May Also Introduce M 1300 GS

Reports also suggest that BMW is developing another M model. Recently surfaced spy images point to the arrival of an M 1300 GS, indicating that the company could expand its performance-focused M range even further.

BMW currently sells the M 1000 RR, M 1000 XR, and M 1000 R in global markets.

Global Debut Expected at EICMA 2026

Since the new motorcycle has appeared in emissions documents for the 2027 model year, BMW is expected to unveil it in the coming months.

The most likely venue for its global debut is EICMA 2026, the world’s largest motorcycle show, which will take place in November. An official announcement from BMW Motorrad is expected closer to the event.
