Chery Exeed EX6, Omoda 9 Facelift Patented in India: Design and PHEV Details
Chery’s premium Exeed brand has patented the new EX6 crossover in India. The model is not an entirely new SUV but a facelift of the China-spec Exeed Yaoguang. Internationally, the same model is expected to be sold as the updated Omoda 9 or Exeed RX.
The India patent gives another indication of Chery’s plans to bring more new-energy vehicles to the Indian market through its upcoming partnership with JSW. However, the patent does not confirm an India launch yet.
Chery Exeed EX6 Design
The Exeed EX6 gets major changes at the front compared with the existing Omoda 9. It features a new frameless grille, redesigned light housings and a revised front bumper. The SUV also gets a different set of aerodynamic alloy wheels. The international versions could feature different alloy designs depending on the market.
The side profile remains largely similar to the Omoda 9, while the rear gets a connected tail-light design. The SUV also features semi-hidden door handles and a LiDAR sensor mounted on the roof. The new front-end design gives the EX6 a more modern appearance compared with the outgoing model.
Dimensions and Exterior Details
The Exeed EX6 measures 4,830mm in length, 1,920mm in width and 1,680mm in height. It has a wheelbase of 2,800mm. Compared with the existing Omoda 9, the EX6 is 55mm longer and 9mm taller.
The overall silhouette remains close to the Omoda 9, but the redesigned front and rear sections give the facelift a different identity. The SUV also gets a single connected tail-light unit at the rear.
Exeed EX6 PHEV Powertrain
The EX6 is expected to use a plug-in hybrid powertrain. The China-spec model gets a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine producing 154hp. Details of the electric motors and the final combined output for the EX6 have not yet been fully revealed.
For reference, the existing Omoda 9 SHS-P uses a plug-in hybrid setup that produces 443bhp and 756Nm. It can accelerate from 0-100kmph in 4.9 seconds and offers a claimed EV-only range of 145km. These figures are for the existing Omoda 9 SHS-P and should not be treated as confirmed specifications for the EX6.
Safety and Technology
The new Exeed EX6 is expected to offer advanced driver assistance technology. The patented model features a LiDAR sensor, which can support advanced ADAS functions.
The SUV is also expected to receive modern connectivity and driver-assistance features as part of Exeed’s new-generation technology package. However, India-specific equipment details have not been announced yet.
Chery Exeed EX6 India Launch
The patent does not confirm when the Exeed EX6 will launch in India. Chery is preparing to enter the Indian market in partnership with JSW, with several brands and new-energy models being considered for the market.
The company has already patented multiple models in India, including the Exeed ET8, Exeed ET9 and other Chery products. The EX6 patent therefore adds another model to the growing list of Chery vehicles that could potentially come to India.
For now, Chery has not announced the India price, launch date or final specifications of the Exeed EX6. If launched, the SUV could become one of the company’s premium plug-in hybrid offerings in the Indian market.
