Japanese auto giant Honda has so far struggled to make a significant dent in India’s highly competitive passenger vehicle market.
One of the key reasons for its underwhelming performance is the limited product portfolio, with the Elevate being its only offering in the popular mid-size SUV segment. In contrast, rivals like Hyundai, Kia, and Tata Motors boast a diverse range of models in this space.
However, Honda is now preparing for a strategic turnaround. The company is set to expand its India lineup over the next two to three years, including the introduction of three new models, one of which will be a fully electric vehicle.
Here’s a closer look at what’s coming:

1. Honda Elevate EV
Honda is gearing up to launch its first all-electric car for India by mid-2026. Based on the current Elevate SUV, this EV will feature distinct styling and is likely to be launched under a new name.
A standout feature of this project is that the Elevate EV will be manufactured in India, with 50–70% of the units to be exported to markets including Japan. This not only emphasizes India’s growing role in global production but also helps Honda manage costs. As per the report the expected Range of this car is around 400 km on a single charge and its expected price is Rs 25 – Rs 30 lakh (ex-showroom)
2. Honda ZR-V Hybrid
Following the EV, Honda will bring the ZR-V Hybrid SUV to Indian shores. A globally sold model, the ZR-V is inspired by the US-spec HR-V and borrows its design cues from the latest-gen Civic sedan.
Under the hood, it is expected to house a 2.0-litre petrol engine paired with a dual electric motor hybrid setup, delivering a fine balance of performance and efficiency. It could also come with a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine in select trims.
Expected Price of this car is around Rs 22 lakh (ex-showroom).

3. All-New 7-Seater Honda SUV
Targeting the rapidly growing 3-row SUV segment, Honda is developing an all-new 7-seater SUV, aimed directly at rivals like the Tata Safari, Mahindra XUV700, and Hyundai Alcazar.
The SUV will be built on a new PF2 platform, specifically designed for larger vehicles, and will be slotted between the Elevate and CR-V in Honda’s global lineup.
It is likely to offer both a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine and a strong hybrid variant, aligning with the brand’s low-emissions strategy.
The price of this SUV is Around Rs 12 lakh (ex-showroom).
With only one SUV currently in its portfolio, Honda has been losing ground to more aggressive players. However, the next two years mark a crucial transition phase, as the brand pivots toward electrification, hybrid technology, and segment diversification.
If Honda delivers on its promises, the company could finally claim a more competitive position in India’s SUV-heavy market landscape.
