Honda to Launch New 7-Seater SUV in India: Here is Everything We Know

Honda Cars India is preparing to strengthen its presence in the country’s fast-growing SUV market with an all-new 7-seater SUV.

The upcoming model is expected to target Indian families looking for a spacious, feature-rich and fuel-efficient three-row SUV, taking on established rivals such as the Mahindra XUV700, Tata Safari, Hyundai Alcazar and MG Hector Plus.

While Honda has not officially revealed the SUV’s specifications or launch date, industry reports suggest the company is actively developing an India-focused three-row SUV as part of its long-term product strategy.

So, lets know what are we expecting from the upcoming Honda car.

Expected Launch Timeline

The new Honda 7-seater SUV is expected to arrive in 2027, following the launch of Honda’s India-specific electric SUV and the hybrid version of the Elevate. The model is expected to play a key role in Honda’s renewed SUV strategy for the Indian market.

Platform and Design

Reports indicate the SUV will be underpinned by Honda’s new PF2 modular platform, which is being developed to support multiple body styles and powertrain options.

The SUV is expected to feature Bold front fascia with a larger grille, Full LED headlamps, Connected LED tail lamps, Muscular bonnet, Squared wheel arches, and 18-inch alloy wheels.

It will come with high ground clearance suitable for Indian roads and its styling inspired by Honda’s latest global design language.

Cabin and Features

Honda is expected to focus heavily on comfort and technology to compete with segment leaders.

Expected features include: Three-row seating for seven occupants, Large floating touchscreen infotainment system, Fully digital instrument cluster, Wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, Panoramic sunroof, Ventilated front seats, Dual-zone automatic climate control, Wireless smartphone charger, Powered driver’s seat, Connected car technology, Multiple USB Type-C charging ports, and 360-degree camera.

The SUV is also expected to offer a significantly more premium cabin than the current Honda Elevate.

Hybrid Powertrain Likely

Honda has not officially confirmed the powertrain, reports suggest the SUV could receive a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine with Honda e:HEV strong hybrid system and this engine will be mated with e-CVT automatic transmission.

A conventional petrol version could also be introduced to keep pricing competitive. The hybrid variant is expected to deliver excellent fuel efficiency while offering lower emissions and smoother urban driving.

Safety Features

Honda is expected to equip the SUV with an extensive safety package, including: Six airbags, Honda Sensing ADAS suite, Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Keep Assist, Collision Mitigation Braking System, Blind Spot Monitoring, Electronic Stability Control, Hill Start Assist, ISOFIX child seat mounts, and Front and rear parking sensors.

If launched with the complete Honda Sensing package, it could become one of the safest three-row SUVs in its segment.

Expected Price in India

The upcoming Honda SUV is expected to be priced between Rs 18 lakh and Rs 25 lakh (ex-showroom), depending on the variant and powertrain.

This pricing would place it against Mahindra XUV700, Tata Safari, Hyundai Alcazar, MG Hector Plus, Toyota Innova HyCross (entry variants), and Jeep Meridian.

Our Thought

Honda currently has a relatively compact product portfolio in India, with the Elevate, City and Amaze accounting for most of its passenger vehicle sales. The introduction of a premium three-row SUV would significantly strengthen the brand’s position in India’s highly competitive SUV segment.

With SUVs continuing to dominate passenger vehicle demand, this upcoming model is expected to become one of Honda’s most important launches over the next few years.

A strong hybrid option would also help Honda cater to buyers looking for fuel-efficient alternatives without switching to a fully electric vehicle.
