Austrian bike maker KTM Motorcycle is currently developing a new sports bike for the global market, and reports suggest that it may also be launched in India in the coming months.
Recently, the new bike was spotted during testing overseas, which is believed to be the KTM RC 490. The brand hinted at this model some time ago.
It will be powered by a new 490cc twin-cylinder engine, which is a recent addition to the company’s lineup. The latest spy shots reveal that development of this bike is still ongoing.

Spy Images Showcase Exciting Updates on the KTM RC 490
The KTM RC 490 is expected to adopt a design closely inspired by the existing RC 390, featuring a range of modern elements. It will likely come with an LED headlamp, daytime running lights (DRLs), and a projector lamp setup.
The design has undergone slight tweaks, contributing to a sharper and more aggressive look compared to the RC 390. From the recent spy shots, we can see that the bike has striking block-out alloy wheels and dual disc brakes, enhancing both aesthetics and performance. Additionally, it features a transparent windscreen and LED taillamps.
The side mirrors have an aerodynamic shape, which improves its sporty profile. Another noteworthy feature is the digital TFT instrument cluster, which offers mobile phone connectivity, providing riders with a modern riding experience.
Engine and Suspension
The spy shots of the KTM RC 490 reveal that it features twin header pipes, indicating that it will indeed be powered by a twin-cylinder engine. Additionally, the bike is equipped with a single-sided swing arm reminiscent of the CF Moto 450 SR.
Given KTM’s collaboration with CF Moto in the Chinese and other international markets, it wouldn’t be surprising to see some design elements or features borrowed from the 450 SR.
According to media reports, the RC 490 will come with KTM’s new 490cc twin-cylinder engine, expected to produce around 50-55 horsepower. The power will be transmitted through a 6-speed gearbox, ensuring an engaging riding experience.
For enhanced ride quality, the RC 490 will be fitted with telescopic front forks and a mono-shock unit at the rear. Additionally, it will likely offer multiple riding modes, cornering traction control, cornering ABS, and a bi-directional quickshifter, making it a feature-rich sports bike designed for versatility and performance.
Price and Availability
The price and availability details for the new KTM RC 490 will be revealed during its official launch. There’s speculation that the starting price could be around Rs 3.85 lakh ex-showroom.
In the Indian market, the RC 490 will face competition from notable models such as the Aprilia RS 457, Kawasaki Ninja 500, and Yamaha YZF-R3. This positioning highlights KTM’s intention to establish a strong presence in the sport bike segment with this exciting new offering.
