Mahindra SUVs get cheaper due to new GST Norms

Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M), one of India’s leading automakers, has announced a strong sales performance for May 2025.

The company recorded total vehicle sales of 84,110 units, reflecting a robust 17% year-on-year growth compared to May 2024.  This growth showcases Mahindra’s ability to sustain momentum in a competitive market.

Nalinikanth Gollagunta, CEO of Mahindra’s Automotive Division, expressed optimism about the company’s performance:

“The strong demand for our SUVs and electric vehicles in May is a testament to our commitment to delivering products that meet customer expectations. We remain focused on innovation and expanding our presence in the EV segment.”

SUV Sales Drive Growth

The SUV segment was a major contributor to Mahindra’s success in May, with 52,431 units sold domestically—a remarkable 21% increase year-on-year.

Including exports, total SUV sales rose to 54,819 units, underlining the company’s expanding global footprint. Mahindra’s popular SUV models continue to resonate strongly with customers, supporting consistent demand.

Commercial and Three-Wheeler Segments Show Positive Momentum

In addition to SUVs, Mahindra’s commercial vehicle division delivered solid results. Domestic sales in this category reached 21,392 units.

The three-wheeler segment, including electric variants, also recorded growth, with 6,635 units sold, marking an 11% increase from the previous year.

These figures highlight Mahindra’s diversified product portfolio and presence across multiple vehicle segments.

Electric Vehicle Sales Skyrocket

One of the most notable achievements for Mahindra in May 2025 is the sharp rise in electric vehicle (EV) sales. The company sold 2,604 electric vehicles, a significant 338% increase year-on-year from 594 units in May 2024.

Mahindra now holds a 21.3% market share in India’s electric passenger vehicle market, establishing itself as the country’s third-largest EV player.

Exports Continue to Rise

Mahindra’s export strategy is showing positive results as well, with 3,652 vehicles exported in May 2025. This marks a strong 37% year-on-year increase, reflecting growing international demand for Mahindra’s vehicles.

Year-to-Date Performance

Looking at the broader picture, Mahindra’s sales from April to May 2025 reflect continued growth. Utility vehicle sales for this period increased by 24%, reaching 104,761 units. Exports also rose significantly, with 7,033 vehicles shipped, representing a 55% increase year-on-year.
