Mercedes-Benz has revealed that it will follow a single design philosophy for all its future cars, regardless of whether they are electric vehicles (EVs) or run on petrol or diesel.
The German luxury carmaker believes that customers prefer a consistent and familiar Mercedes look, instead of very different designs for electric and fuel-powered models.
This new approach will help the brand maintain a strong identity while transitioning towards electrification. Mercedes says design should be about brand character, not just the type of powertrain used.

One Design Identity Across the Line-up
According to Mercedes-Benz, upcoming models will no longer look drastically different based on whether they are EVs or ICE (internal combustion engine) vehicles. Instead, both will share similar styling, proportions, and interior design themes, making them instantly recognisable as Mercedes cars.
Earlier, Mercedes gave its electric cars a very different, futuristic shape to highlight their EV identity. However, the company has now realised that many buyers prefer a more traditional and premium design that matches existing Mercedes models. By unifying the design language, Mercedes aims to make EVs feel more familiar and appealing to long-time customers.

What This Means for Future Mercedes Cars
This new design direction will be applied to popular models such as the GLC, C-Class, and S-Class, regardless of their powertrain. Whether a customer chooses an electric version or a petrol/diesel variant, the overall look and cabin experience will remain largely the same.
By reducing the visual gap between EVs and conventional cars, Mercedes hopes to make electric vehicles easier to accept for mainstream buyers. Customers can now focus on performance, range, and features, rather than being influenced by unusual EV-specific styling.
This move is part of Mercedes-Benz’s long-term plan to balance luxury, innovation, and customer expectations. With a unified design language, the brand aims to strengthen its identity globally while smoothly transitioning into an electric future.
Mercedes-Benz’s decision to give all its cars a similar design — whether electric or fuel-powered — marks a major shift in its styling strategy. By focusing on brand consistency and customer preference, the company is setting the stage for a more seamless and confident move towards electrification.
