Land Rover is reportedly working on an all-electric version of its smaller Defender SUV, expected to be named the Defender Sport Electric.
This new model will likely sit below the standard Defender in the brand’s global lineup, targeting buyers who want rugged design with zero-emission performance.
Built on a dedicated electric vehicle platform, the SUV is anticipated to deliver strong performance, advanced technology, and improved efficiency. While official specifications are yet to be revealed, early reports suggest a premium feature list and modern styling updates.
Here’s a closer look at the design, powertrain, cabin features, and expected pricing details.

Land Rover Defender Sport Electric: Design
The Defender Sport Electric is expected to retain the iconic boxy silhouette that defines the Defender family, but in a more compact footprint.
It will likely feature squared-off wheel arches, short overhangs, and a high ground clearance to preserve its off-road DNA. EV-specific elements such as a closed-off grille, aerodynamic alloy wheels, and flush door handles could improve efficiency.
Slim LED headlamps, a rugged front bumper, and a contrasting roof design are also anticipated. Protective body cladding and roof rails may further enhance its adventure-ready stance while maintaining urban appeal.
Land Rover Defender Sport Electric: Powertrain
The electric Defender Sport is likely to be built on Jaguar Land Rover’s new EMA (Electric Modular Architecture) platform, designed specifically for compact EVs.
It could feature dual-motor all-wheel drive in higher variants, delivering strong torque and quick acceleration. Entry-level versions may come with a single-motor setup for efficiency-focused buyers.
Battery capacity is expected to range between 60–80 kWh, offering a projected driving range of around 400–500 km on a full charge. Fast-charging capability with 150 kW+ DC charging support is also expected, enabling quicker top-ups during long journeys.

Land Rover Defender Sport Electric: Cabin
Inside, the Defender Sport Electric is expected to feature a premium yet minimalist cabin layout. A large floating touchscreen infotainment system with the latest Pivi Pro software and a fully digital instrument cluster are likely.
Sustainable materials such as recycled fabrics and eco-friendly trims may be used to reflect its electric identity. Features could include a panoramic sunroof, multi-zone climate control, connected car tech, wireless charging, and ADAS safety suite.
Despite its compact size, clever packaging should ensure ample legroom and a practical boot space.
Expected Price and Launch Timeline
The new Defender Sport Electric is expected to make its global debut in 2027, with production likely commencing soon after. Pricing is anticipated to start at around £50,000 in international markets.
If introduced in India in the future, it could be priced in the Rs 70–90 lakh (ex-showroom) range, depending on specifications and import duties.
The model will target premium electric SUVs from brands like BMW and Mercedes-Benz, while offering Land Rover’s signature blend of luxury and off-road capability in an EV format.
