India’s largest car manufacturer, Maruti Suzuki, has commenced production of its Maruti e-Vitara, which is set to be launched in the Indian market on September 3.

The SUV will be manufactured at the company’s Hansalpur plant in Gujarat, which was inaugurated today by Prime Minister Modi. The inauguration also included a glimpse of the next phase of the plant, which will produce hybrid battery electrodes.

Once launched, the e-Vitara will face competition from vehicles such as the Mahindra XUV400, Tata Punch EV, and MG ZS EV.
