In a strategic move to expand its portfolio and embrace sustainable mobility, Royal Enfield is reportedly in advanced discussions with Chinese motorcycle manufacturer CFMoto to source a 250cc engine for its upcoming entry-level model, codenamed ‘V’.
This engine is designed to comply with India’s stringent BS-VI Phase 2 emissions standards and the upcoming Corporate Average Fuel Efficiency (CAFE) norms, ensuring both environmental compliance and fuel efficiency.

Royal Enfield’s: A Hybrid-Ready Powertrain
The proposed 250cc engine from CFMoto is not just about meeting current regulations; it’s engineered with hybrid adaptability in mind.
This forward-thinking approach positions Royal Enfield to pivot toward mild-hybrid or full-hybrid configurations in the future without necessitating a complete platform overhaul.
Such adaptability aligns with the brand’s long-term vision for sustainable growth and innovation in the motorcycle industry.

Maintaining Royal Enfield’s Signature DNA
While the engine technology may be sourced from CFMoto, Royal Enfield is committed to preserving its distinctive design and engineering ethos.
The chassis, suspension, and overall design of the new model will be developed in-house, ensuring that the motorcycle retains the brand’s timeless aesthetic and rugged charm. This collaboration is strictly a technical alliance, with no plans for co-branded bikes or joint ventures.
Targeting the Entry-Level Premium Segment
The upcoming 250cc model is expected to slot below the Hunter 350 in Royal Enfield’s lineup, aiming to attract riders transitioning from 100-150cc motorcycles. With an anticipated price range of ₹1.25 lakh to ₹1.35 lakh, the new offering seeks to make Royal Enfield’s heritage and performance accessible to a broader audience.
This initiative underscores Royal Enfield’s commitment to innovation and adaptability in a rapidly evolving automotive landscape. By embracing hybrid technology and expanding into the entry-level premium segment, the company is poised to strengthen its position in the global motorcycle market.
