Tata Motors has officially confirmed that its popular Nexon compact SUV will be launched in South Africa under a completely new name Tata Osprey.
The rebranded SUV is scheduled to make its South African debut in the third quarter of 2026, marking another important step in Tata Motors’ global expansion strategy.
Although the name will change, the SUV is expected to retain the same design, features, and performance that have made the Nexon one of India’s best-selling compact SUVs.
Why Is Tata Renaming the Nexon?
Instead of using the globally recognized Nexon name, Tata Motors has chosen the Osprey badge specifically for the South African market. According to the company, the new name has been carefully selected to suit local customer preferences and strengthen the SUV’s identity in the region.
The Tata Osprey will become the fifth passenger vehicle in Tata’s South African portfolio and will be positioned between the Punch and Curvv SUVs.
