MG Reveals Future EV Technology Roadmap: Smarter Hybrids, Better Batteries

MG has unveiled its future technology roadmap during its Tech Day event in the UK, giving a preview of the brand’s upcoming innovations.

The company plans to introduce a new generation of plug-in hybrid (PHEV) technology, semi-solid-state batteries, and more advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS).

Most of these new technologies are expected to be introduced from 2027 onwards, highlighting MG’s focus on making future vehicles more efficient, safer, and smarter.

New Plug-in Hybrid+ Powertrain

One of the biggest announcements is MG’s new Plug-in Hybrid+ (PHEV) powertrain. It combines newly developed 1.1-litre and 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engines with a new hybrid transmission.

The system uses advanced technology to improve fuel efficiency, deliver smoother performance, and provide a quieter electric driving experience.

The first vehicle to receive this new powertrain will be the next-generation MG ZS Plug-in Hybrid+, which is expected to launch in 2027.

Semi-Solid-State Battery Technology

MG has also confirmed that its future plug-in hybrid models will use the company’s new SolidCore semi-solid-state battery technology.

Compared to traditional lithium-ion batteries, this new battery is expected to provide more stable performance, better driving range, and improved efficiency in very hot or cold weather.

The company plans to introduce this battery technology in three upcoming SUV models.

Smarter ADAS and Automated Parking

MG is also working on more advanced driver assistance and safety technologies. The company says it has collected over 1.2 million kilometres of driving data from 24 European countries to improve its ADAS systems.

One major highlight is a new automated parking system that can handle more than 300 different parking situations, including parking spaces without marked lines.

It also supports automatic pull-out assistance and reverse memory, allowing the vehicle to retrace its path for up to 100 metres.

Could These Technologies Come to India?

While MG has announced these technologies for global markets, they also show the brand’s future direction.

As MG Motor India continues to expand its electric vehicle lineup and connected car technologies, some of these new powertrains, batteries, and safety features could eventually be introduced in future models for Indian customers.

This could make MG’s next-generation vehicles more efficient, technologically advanced, and better suited for modern driving needs.
