Maruti Suzuki Expands Hansalpur Plant, Production Capacity Reaches 10 Lakh Units Annually

Maruti Suzuki has officially inaugurated its fourth manufacturing plant at the Hansalpur facility in Gujarat, marking a significant expansion of its production capabilities. With the opening of the new Plant D, the annual production capacity of the facility has increased from 7.5 lakh units to 10 lakh vehicles.

This milestone makes Hansalpur India’s largest passenger vehicle manufacturing facility at a single location. It has also become the first Suzuki plant globally to achieve an annual production capacity of one million vehicles.

New Plant D to Manufacture Maruti Suzuki e VITARA

The newly developed Plant D at Hansalpur will initially focus on producing Maruti Suzuki’s first global electric SUV, the e VITARA. The expansion comes as the company prepares to strengthen its presence in the growing electric vehicle segment.

With the addition of this new facility, Maruti Suzuki’s total manufacturing capacity in India has increased to 29 lakh vehicles annually, further enhancing its production capabilities.

₹25,000 Crore Investment in Gujarat Facility

The Hansalpur manufacturing facility is spread across 640 acres and has received a cumulative investment of ₹25,288.7 crore. Out of this, approximately ₹3,900 crore has been invested in setting up the newly inaugurated Plant D.

The expansion highlights Maruti Suzuki’s long-term commitment to increasing production capacity and meeting the growing demand for vehicles in India and overseas markets.

Hansalpur Becomes Maruti Suzuki’s Largest Export Hub

The Gujarat facility has now become the company’s biggest export centre, with four production plants manufacturing models such as Baleno, Fronx, Swift, and e VITARA.

During FY2025-26, Hansalpur contributed nearly 47% of Maruti Suzuki’s total overseas shipments, making it a crucial part of the company’s global export strategy.

Gujarat Strengthens Position as Manufacturing Base

Since beginning operations in 2017, the Hansalpur facility has achieved several production milestones. It produced its first one million vehicles by October 2020 and crossed the five-million cumulative production mark in May 2026.

Maruti Suzuki Managing Director and CEO Hisashi Takeuchi said that Gujarat has emerged as a key manufacturing and export hub for the company. He added that the new expansion will help fulfil rising domestic and international demand while supporting the company’s “Make in India, Make for the World” vision.
