In a major push toward mass-market electrification, Maruti Suzuki is reportedly developing an all-new, affordable electric vehicle priced under Rs 10 lakh. Positioned below the e Vitara in the carmaker’s growing EV lineup, this new small electric car aims to make battery-powered mobility accessible to everyday Indian buyers.
The upcoming EV will focus on city and suburban commuting, offering a practical real-world driving range alongside low ownership costs. With development already underway, this model could mark Maruti’s entry into the high-volume budget EV segment.
Built on a Dedicated EV Platform
Unlike converted internal combustion engine (ICE) models, the upcoming Maruti electric car will utilize a dedicated EV platform. Developing a bespoke electric architecture allows engineers to optimize cabin space, battery placement, and weight distribution without compromise.
To maintain an accessible price point, the car is expected to house a compact battery pack delivering a driving range of approximately 250 km to 315 km on a single charge—ideal for daily urban travel and routine commutes.
