Ducati Formula 73 Launched at Rs. 20 Lakh in India: Design, Engine, Features and Rivals

Ducati has launched the limited-edition Ducati Formula 73 in India at Rs. 20 lakh (ex-showroom). The motorcycle pays tribute to the iconic Ducati 750 Super Sport Desmo from 1973 and combines classic styling with modern technology.

Ducati will produce only 873 numbered units of the Formula 73 globally. The Indian allocation has already sold out, and the company is no longer accepting bookings. The motorcycle also celebrates Ducati’s heritage during its centenary year.

It brings a café racer-inspired design, an 803cc Desmodue engine and modern electronic rider aids. Ducati has developed the Formula 73 primarily for collectors and enthusiasts who value its exclusive design and historical connection.

Ducati Formula 73: Design

The Ducati Formula 73 gets a distinctive silver and aqua-green colour scheme inspired by the original 750 Super Sport Desmo. A vertical gold stripe runs across the fuel tank and pays tribute to the 750 Imola Desmo race bike.

The motorcycle features a compact half fairing, clip-on handlebars and bar-end mirrors that give it a classic café racer appearance. A short tapered tail further strengthens its minimalist design.

Ducati uses a steel trellis frame finished in aqua green, while 17-inch spoked wheels add to the retro character. The motorcycle also gets billet aluminium brake and clutch levers, footpegs and a Rizoma fuel cap. Each unit carries its individual serial number.

Ducati Formula 73: Powertrain

The Formula 73 uses an 803cc air-cooled Desmodue L-twin engine with two valves per cylinder and Ducati’s desmodromic valve system. The engine produces 73hp at 8,250rpm and 65.2Nm of peak torque at 7,000rpm. A Ride-by-Wire throttle helps deliver smoother engine response across the rev range.

Ducati pairs the engine with a Termignoni-developed exhaust system that gets design elements created specifically for the Formula 73. The engine meets Euro 5+ emission standards.

The motorcycle also gets Ducati Quick Shift, which allows clutchless gear changes. Ducati offers Sport and Road riding modes along with traction control and other electronic systems to complement the engine.

Ducati Formula 73: Suspension and Braking

The Ducati Formula 73 uses a steel trellis frame with a 41mm upside-down KYB front fork. The rear gets a KYB monoshock with preload adjustment. Ducati equips the motorcycle with 17-inch spoked wheels wrapped in Pirelli Diablo Rosso IV tyres. The front tyre measures 120/70, while the rear uses a 180/55 setup.

Braking duties come from a 330mm front disc with a four-piston Brembo radial caliper. Cornering ABS works with the motorcycle’s inertial measurement unit to provide additional control while braking.

Ducati also offers traction control and riding modes as part of the electronic package. The Formula 73 weighs 183kg without fuel.
