Luxury car company BMW is gearing up to launch its new bold SUV in its lineup and preparing to retire the muscular XM by 2028.

As per the reports, company is planning to introduce a brand-new off-road flagship SUV, codenamed G74, in late 2029. This new model, built on an upgraded X5 platform, is aimed at delivering rugged capability without compromising luxury, challenging icons like the Mercedes G-Class.

What will BMW G74 Offers?

BMW G74 will be assembled at BMW’s Spartanburg plant in South Carolina and is expected to carry a premium positioning similar to the outgoing XM. The anticipated pricing of this SUV could start at $160,000, putting it squarely in Mercedes G550 territory.

G74 promises enhanced underbody protection redesigned with a more robust, off-road-ready identity, specialized drive modes, and a boxier silhouette tuned for trail conquest.

With BMW ready to retire the XM a bold plug-in hybrid flagship from 2028, the G74 signals a strategic pivot toward adventure luxury vehicles, expanding BMW’s appeal to enthusiasts craving rugged elegance.

Features of BMW XM

The BMW XM is the brand’s first standalone M model since the M1 and combines luxury with high performance.

It has been powered by a 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 paired with an electric motor, it delivers 653 hp and 800 Nm of torque, with an 8-speed automatic gearbox and all-wheel drive.

This SUV has a dual curved display, Bowers & Wilkins audio, ambient lighting, adaptive M suspension, and advanced driver assistance. It offers a pure electric range of around 88 km (WLTP).

In India, the BMW XM is priced from Rs 2.60 crore (ex-showroom), placing it in the ultra-luxury performance SUV segment.
