BMW X1 Long Wheelbase Launched in India at Rs 49.90 Lakh: Design, Engine, Cabin and Safety Details
BMW has expanded its luxury SUV portfolio in India with the launch of the BMW X1 Long Wheelbase (LWB). Priced at an introductory ₹49.90 lakh (ex-showroom), the new SUV is aimed at buyers looking for a premium compact SUV with improved rear-seat comfort.
Compared with the standard X1, the LWB version gets a stretched body and longer wheelbase, creating additional space for rear passengers. BMW has focused on making the model more suitable for family and chauffeur-driven use while retaining the familiar X1 styling.
The SUV is locally manufactured in India and comes with a petrol powertrain.
BMW X1 LWB: Design
The BMW X1 LWB retains the design language of the standard X1 but gets a noticeably stretched side profile. It measures 4,616mm in length, making it 116mm longer, while the wheelbase has increased by 108mm to around 2,800mm.
The SUV features BMW’s signature kidney grille, twin-pod LED headlamps with L-shaped DRLs, sculpted bumpers and 18-inch alloy wheels. The extended rear doors and longer profile are the biggest visual differences.
BMW X1 LWB: Engine
The BMW X1 LWB is offered with a 1.5-litre, three-cylinder turbo-petrol engine in India. This engine produces 156hp and 230Nm of peak torque and is paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. Power is sent to the front wheels. The LWB version is currently available only with a petrol engine, with no diesel or all-wheel-drive option announced for India.
BMW X1 LWB: Cabin
The biggest highlight of the X1 LWB is its spacious rear cabin. The extended wheelbase provides approximately 109mm of additional rear knee room, making the second row significantly more comfortable.
The cabin gets BMW’s curved display setup with a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and 10.7-inch touchscreen. Other highlights include a panoramic glass roof, electrically adjustable front seats, a 360-degree camera and Harman Kardon sound system.

The SUV also features advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) and a 360-degree camera to improve driver awareness and parking convenience. These features complement the SUV’s standard safety equipment and make the long-wheelbase model better suited to family-focused buyers.
