Ford Mustang RTR Spec 5 Breaks Cover With 870hp
The Ford Mustang has gained an even more extreme performance version with the unveiling of the Mustang RTR Spec 5. Developed by RTR Vehicles under the leadership of Vaughn Gittin Jr., the limited-edition model combines the Mustang GT’s 5.0-litre V8 with a supercharger and extensive chassis upgrades.
The result is more than 870hp, making the Spec 5 more powerful than the Ford Mustang GTD. RTR will produce only 50 units per year, adding to its exclusivity. The model also gets a widebody design, carbon-fibre components, upgraded suspension, performance brakes and bespoke interior details.
Ford Mustang RTR Spec 5: Engine and Performance
The Mustang RTR Spec 5 starts with the standard Mustang GT’s 5.0-litre V8 engine. RTR adds a 3.0-litre Whipple Stage 2 supercharger along with an HD Race intercooler and a RTR by Borla active cat-back exhaust system. These upgrades push the output to more than 870hp and 660lb-ft of torque.
The car can be ordered with either a six-speed manual gearbox or a 10-speed automatic transmission. The automatic version is rated at more than 870hp, while manual-equipped cars can produce slightly different output depending on the setup.
RTR has also upgraded the chassis with its Tactical Performance Suspension System. It gets 30-way adjustable front coilovers, adjustable rear dampers, height-adjustable springs and adjustable front and rear sway bars. This setup allows owners to alter the ride height, stiffness and handling characteristics of the car.

Aggressive Widebody Design
The Mustang RTR Spec 5 gets a completely redesigned widebody system that gives it a much wider and more aggressive stance. The package includes composite front fenders, bumper extensions, rocker panels and rear quarter panels with integrated tyre cooling vents.
RTR has also added exposed carbon-fibre components, including the front chin splitter, rocker splitters, rear quarter splitters and front and rear wake tower assemblies. The car rides on 20-inch RTR Aero 5 Evo forged wheels wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tyres. The front wheels measure 10.5 inches wide, while the rear wheels measure 11 inches.
Braking hardware includes Brembo six-piston front and four-piston rear calipers, along with upgraded two-piece front rotors. These upgrades complement the car’s increased power and track-focused chassis setup.
Interior and Customisation
Inside, the Mustang RTR Spec 5 gets RTR leather-covered Recaro sport seats with Cool Grey bolsters, black suede supports and ribbed inserts. It also features an RTR Performance shift knob, RTR floor mats and a serialized dashboard plaque carrying Vaughn Gittin Jr.’s signature.
The car also retains Ford’s Electronic Drift Brake, which was developed with Vaughn Gittin Jr. RTR offers several exterior paint options, including premium colours for an additional $7,500. Customers can also choose Mystichrome or paint-to-sample finishes for an additional $15,000.
Ford Mustang RTR Spec 5 Price and Rivals
The Ford Mustang RTR Spec 5 starts at $159,999, including the base Mustang GT with the 401A package and Performance Package. RTR plans to build only 50 examples per year in the US. The limited production run makes it more of an exclusive performance collector car than a direct rival to regular Mustang variants.
