Honda Plans Bigger SUV Push in India With New Elevate and Upcoming Models

Honda Cars India is preparing for a major expansion of its SUV portfolio as the company looks to strengthen its presence in India’s fast-growing SUV market. The strategy will cover both sub-four-metre and larger SUVs, with petrol and battery electric vehicles (BEVs) forming the main focus.

Honda currently sells the Elevate in the mid-size SUV segment and has now introduced its updated version in India. The company also plans to add more SUV models as it targets more than 10 products in the Indian market by 2030.

Honda Elevate and New SUV Plans

Honda’s SUV expansion will cover multiple segments. Kunal Behl, Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Honda Cars India, said the company wants to grow its customer base through SUVs below and above four metres. Honda’s first BEV for India will be the 0 Alpha SUV, which will sit above four metres and will not serve as an electric version of the Elevate.

The company is also developing a sub-four-metre SUV to reach a wider customer base. Honda expects SUVs to account for a major share of its future India portfolio.

Petrol, Hybrid and EV Strategy

Honda will continue to focus on petrol models while expanding its electric vehicle range. The company also plans to expand its hybrid portfolio. Honda’s next-generation hybrid technology will make its global debut in 2027 before reaching India.

For its EV plans, Honda also wants to build a wider charging ecosystem covering public charging stations and home charging. The company believes this ecosystem will play an important role in making its future EV products successful in India.
