Hyundai Inster EV Scores 4 Stars in Euro NCAP Crash Tests

Hyundai Inster EV, the electric iteration of the popular Casper micro SUV, has officially received a 4-star safety rating from Euro NCAP, one of the world’s most rigorous crash testing authorities.

This recognition further solidifies the Inster’s position as a smart, city-friendly EV that doesn’t compromise on occupant protection.

Hyundai Inster EV: Crash Test Report

The Hyundai Inster EV was evaluated by Euro NCAP across four critical categories, reflecting its overall commitment to passenger and pedestrian safety.

In the Adult Occupant Safety segment, the Inster scored 70%, thanks to a stable cabin structure during frontal crashes, effective knee and thigh protection, and marginal chest safety ratings. For Child Occupant Safety, the EV excelled with an impressive score of 81%, attributed to excellent child restraint system (CRS) installation and strong frontal impact protection.

In terms of Vulnerable Road Users, the car achieved a 70% score, offering good protection for head and legs, although pelvis protection was rated poorly.

The Safety Assist category saw the Inster earn 67%, driven by its suite of features such as Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), lane assist systems, fatigue detection, and an advanced eCall system.
Despite being a compact EV with a lightweight build of 1,358 kg, the Inster demonstrated commendable resilience across multiple crash scenarios.

It successfully endured frontal offset collisions, side impacts, and even side pole tests highlighting Hyundai’s engineering focus on safety within a city-centric electric vehicle.

Key Observations from the Tests of Hyundai Inster EV
  • Frontal Impact: Cabin remained stable, but driver’s head hit the airbag too hard, reducing protection rating.
  • Side Impact: Vital areas well protected, but driver’s door unlatched during test, leading to score penalty.
  • Rear-End Collision: Good whiplash protection for front seats; rear seats rated marginal.
  • Far-Side Impact: Poor control of passenger movement across cabin (excursion).
Safety Tech That Stands Out

Hyundai has equipped the Inster EV with a suite of modern safety features:

  • Advanced eCall system for automatic emergency contact
  • Multi-collision brake system
  • Lane Keeping Assist (LKA)
  • Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (FCA) for vehicles, pedestrians, and cyclists
  • Driver fatigue monitoring system

Additionally, Hyundai confirmed that the vehicle’s doors and windows remain operable even in submersion scenarios, ensuring safe exit during emergencies.
