India Hands Over 54 Mahindra XEV 9e SUVs to Bhutan Government

India has officially handed over 54 Made-in-India Mahindra XEV 9e electric SUVs to the Royal Government of Bhutan. External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar presented the fleet to Bhutanese Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay during his official visit to Bhutan from September 16 to 18, 2026.

This initiative directly supports Bhutan’s transition toward sustainable e-mobility. The flagship Mahindra electric SUV will now join the official government fleet in Bhutan.

India Hands Over 54 Mahindra XEV 9e EVs to Bhutan

India supplied the 54 Mahindra XEV 9e units under its ongoing development assistance program. The formal handover took place in Thimphu during Dr. Jaishankar’s bilateral visit.

The Royal Government of Bhutan will deploy these electric vehicles across key official departments. This support aligns with Bhutan’s commitment to maintaining zero-emission, carbon-neutral public transportation.

Mahindra XEV 9e: Battery and Performance

The Bhutan government received the Pack Two version of the Mahindra XEV 9e. This variant uses a 59kWh LFP battery pack with a rear-wheel-drive layout. Its single permanent-magnet synchronous motor generates 228bhp and 380Nm of peak torque.

The electric SUV accelerates from 0 to 100kmph in 8.3 seconds and delivers a claimed 542km MIDC range. Using a 140kW DC fast charger, the battery replenishes from 20 to 80 percent in around 20 minutes under suitable conditions.

XEV 9e Features

The Mahindra XEV 9e features a bold coupe-SUV stance with 19-inch alloy wheels, flush door handles, and a connected LED rear light bar. Inside, the cabin boasts a triple 12.3-inch screen setup that includes a digital instrument cluster, central touchscreen, and passenger display. Additional highlights include a 16-speaker Harman Kardon audio system, a panoramic glass roof, and a powered driver’s seat with memory functions.

Mahindra XEV 9e India Price

In India, the Mahindra XEV 9e starts at around Rs 21.90 lakh (ex-showroom). The higher-capacity battery variant offers a claimed range of up to 656km. This diplomatic handover highlights the growing global reach of Indian-built electric vehicles and strengthens sustainable mobility partnerships across South Asia.
