India Records Over 3.3 Lakh EV Registrations in September 2026

India’s electric vehicle market recorded its strongest month so far in September 2026, with EV registrations across different vehicle segments crossing the 3.3 lakh mark.

According to registration data, September became the fourth consecutive month when electric vehicle registrations crossed 3 lakh units in India. Electric two-wheelers remained the biggest contributor, while electric passenger vehicles also recorded their highest monthly registrations.

The data shows that EV demand continued to grow across two-wheelers, cars and three-wheelers. The final September figure could increase slightly as some vehicle registrations can take time to appear on the Vahan dashboard.

Electric Two-Wheelers Lead India’s EV Registrations

Electric two-wheelers accounted for the largest share of India’s EV registrations in September. Registrations reached around 2.07 lakh units, setting a new monthly record. TVS Motor recorded around 54,000 electric two-wheeler registrations, while Bajaj recorded approximately 48,400 units. Ather also reported strong volumes at around 30,500 units compared with 19,620 units in September 2025.

Hero, Ola and Greaves also recorded significant registrations during the month. The numbers show that electric scooters and motorcycles continue to account for a major part of India’s overall EV market.

Electric Car Registrations Nearly Double

Electric passenger vehicles also recorded a strong performance in September 2026. Registrations reached around 36,000 units, almost twice the figure recorded in September 2025.

Tata remained the largest player with around 14,712 electric passenger vehicle registrations. Mahindra followed with 7,742 units, while JSW MG Motor recorded 5,226 units.

VinFast registered 2,960 electric vehicles during the month, compared with just six units in September 2025. Separate Vahan-based data compiled by Nuvama showed 35,948 electric passenger vehicle registrations in September, up 94% year-on-year.

Electric Three-Wheelers Also See Strong Demand

Electric three-wheelers contributed more than 86,000 registrations in September 2026. The figure increased from around 80,000 units in August, although it remained below the 88,315 units recorded in July.

Compared with September 2025, when electric three-wheelers recorded 61,434 registrations, the latest figure represents a significant increase. The performance across two-wheelers, passenger vehicles and three-wheelers helped push India’s total EV registrations above 3.3 lakh units for the month.
