Tesla India Crosses 1,000 Sales Milestone in 13 Months: Sales Report

Tesla has crossed an important sales milestone in India after registering more than 1,000 units of its Model Y electric SUV in the country. The American electric vehicle maker entered the Indian market a little over a year ago and currently sells only the Model Y here.

According to Vahan registration data, Tesla has recorded 1,017 Model Y units between September 2025 and October 2, 2026. The company recorded its highest-ever monthly sales in September 2026, when registrations reached 291 units.

Tesla has also increased its presence in India with more showrooms, service facilities and charging infrastructure across major cities.

Tesla India Launch and Sales Report

Tesla officially entered the Indian market in July 2025 with the Model Y. The company opened its first showroom in Mumbai’s Bandra Kurla Complex on July 15, 2025. The Model Y started at Rs. 59.89 lakh for the Rear-Wheel Drive version at launch.

Tesla’s sales remained limited during the initial months, but volumes increased significantly from July 2026. In September 2026, Tesla registered a record 291 units, up 322 per cent year-on-year from 69 units in September 2025.

Sales also increased 149 per cent month-on-month from 117 units in August. Tesla crossed 1,000 cumulative registrations with 1,017 units by October 2, 2026.
