GST Reforms: The Indian government’s recent overhaul of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) has led to significant price reductions for many SUV models from major automakers such as Tata, Toyota, Hyundai, Mahindra, Kia, and others.
These changes aim to simplify the tax structure and reduce the financial burden on buyers. Under the new GST regime, most cars now fall into one of two tax brackets: 18% for regular automobiles and 40% for luxury or “sin” goods.
Previously, cars were taxed at 28% in addition to an extra cess that ranged from 1% to 22%, depending on the model and category.
The removal of this additional cess and the simplification of tax slabs have resulted in clearer pricing and often lower costs for many SUV buyers.
Now, let’s discuss which car company is offering the most discounts on its vehicles available for sale in India.

Tata Motors GST Reforms
Tata Motors has announced significant price reductions across its SUV lineup following the recent GST reforms.
The popular Tata Nexon has become up to Rs 1.55 lakh more affordable, while the larger Safari has seen a price drop of around Rs 1.45 lakh.
The Harrier too has received a cut of nearly Rs 1.40 lakh, making it more attractive for buyers in the premium SUV space.
Even the compact Punch and the recently launched Curvv have benefited, with price reductions of about Rs 85,000 and Rs 65,000 respectively, further strengthening Tata’s value-for-money positioning in the competitive SUV market.
Mahindra and Mahindra GST Reforms
Mahindra & Mahindra has also passed on notable benefits to SUV buyers after the GST revisions.
The Bolero and Bolero Neo have become up to Rs 1.27 lakh cheaper, making them even more appealing in the rugged SUV category.
The recently launched XUV3XO, available in both petrol and diesel variants, has witnessed price cuts of nearly Rs 1.56 lakh, giving it a stronger edge in the compact SUV space.
Meanwhile, the popular Thar has also received reductions, with the 2WD version becoming cheaper by up to Rs 1.35 lakh and the 4WD variant by about Rs 1.01 lakh, further boosting its value in the lifestyle SUV market.
Toyota
Toyota has introduced some of the biggest price cuts in the SUV market following the GST reforms.
The ever-popular Fortuner has seen its price reduced by up to Rs 3.49 lakh, while the premium Legender variant has become cheaper by around Rs 3.34 lakh.
