Maruti Grand Vitara Crosses 4 Lakh Sales Mark in India

Maruti Suzuki has achieved another major commercial milestone as its flagship mid-size SUV, the Maruti Grand Vitara, crossed 4,00,000 domestic sales in India.

Reaching 4,01,007 cumulative domestic wholesales in June 2026, the vehicle took 46 months from its September 2022 debut to accomplish this feat.

Sold exclusively through the premium Nexa dealership network, the Grand Vitara also generated 62,500 export units during the same operational period. The SUV now stands as the second best-selling Nexa SUV in the automaker’s lineup after the Fronx compact crossover.

Record Sales Timeline and Rapid Milestones

The Grand Vitara initially set rapid sales records across the mid-size SUV segment. It reached the 1,00,000 unit milestone in just 12 months after its market entry. The SUV then crossed 2,00,000 units in 22 months, outpacing early segment competitors. It hit the 3,00,000 unit sales mark in April 2025 after another 10 months.

However, the final leg to 4,00,000 units took slightly over 14 months. The arrival of new internal platform stablemates and increased segment rivalry slowed the final sprint. Despite the recent slowdown, Maruti dispatched 8,127 units in July 2026 alone, marking a strong start to the second quarter of the current fiscal year.

Fiscal Year Performance and Nexa Contribution

The Grand Vitara recorded its peak annual volume during FY2025, dispatching 1,23,946 units to dealerships across India. That marked a steady growth over FY2024, when Maruti sold 1,21,169 units. In FY2026, domestic sales moderated to 83,849 units amid rising competition in the mid-size SUV space.

During the first quarter of FY2027 (April to June 2026), Maruti delivered 20,728 Grand Vitara units. The model accounts for roughly 21 percent of all Nexa utility vehicle dispatches in Q1 FY2027. Over the past four fiscal years, the Grand Vitara contributed 35 percent to overall Nexa utility vehicle sales, proving its critical role in Maruti’s premium portfolio.

Powertrain Options Fuel Consumer Demand

A diverse set of powertrain options continues to attract mid-size SUV buyers to Nexa showrooms. The Grand Vitara features a 1.5-litre K15C mild-hybrid engine alongside a factory-fitted CNG variant for efficiency-focused drivers. Maruti also offers Suzuki’s AllGrip all-wheel-drive system on select manual and automatic trims.

Additionally, the Grand Vitara remains one of the few models in its segment to offer a strong-hybrid powertrain. The 1.5-litre strong-hybrid setup combines an electric motor with an e-CVT gearbox to produce a combined 115 hp and 141 Nm of torque. This hybrid configuration delivers exceptional fuel economy, giving Maruti a distinct advantage over pure petrol competitors.

Key Segment Rivals and Market Dynamics

The Grand Vitara competes in one of India’s most aggressive automotive market segments. It faces stiff competition from established rivals including the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, and its shared-platform sibling, the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder.

In Q1 FY2027, the Hyundai Creta led the segment with 37,694 units, followed by the Kia Seltos at 30,817 units and the Toyota Hyryder at 26,883 units.

Internal competition also shifted market dynamics when Maruti introduced the Victoris mid-size SUV through its widespread Arena network in August 2025. The Victoris sold over 1,00,000 units in its first 10 months, absorbing a portion of buyer interest from the Grand Vitara. Nevertheless, the Grand Vitara maintains competitive pricing ranging from Rs 10.77 lakh to Rs 19.57 lakh (ex-showroom).

Conclusion

The Maruti Grand Vitara crossing the 4 lakh sales milestone highlights Maruti Suzuki’s successful expansion into the premium SUV landscape. By combining strong-hybrid efficiency, optional all-wheel drive, and premium Nexa branding, the Grand Vitara maintains a strong presence in India’s highly competitive mid-size SUV market.
