Mercedes-Benz India to Expand AMG Lineup After 50% Sales Growth in H1 202
Mercedes-Benz India is gearing up to expand its high-performance AMG portfolio after witnessing a strong surge in customer demand during the first half of 2026.
The luxury carmaker has confirmed that additional AMG models, including electrified performance vehicles, will be introduced in the Indian market as buyers increasingly seek cars that combine everyday practicality with exhilarating performance.
The announcement follows the successful launch of the AMG E 53 Hybrid 4MATIC+, which marks a new chapter in Mercedes-Benz’s electrified performance strategy for India.
AMG Sales Jump 50% in H1 2026
Mercedes-Benz India Managing Director and CEO Santosh Iyer revealed that the AMG range posted an impressive 50% year-on-year growth during the first six months of calendar year 2026.
The strong performance reflects the rising popularity of performance-oriented luxury cars in India, where buyers are now looking beyond conventional sports cars and embracing models that offer both comfort and everyday usability.
Iyer also confirmed that Mercedes-Benz plans to introduce more AMG models in India in the coming months, including electric performance vehicles, further broadening the brand’s premium performance lineup.
Record Sales Strengthen Mercedes-Benz Position
Mercedes-Benz India recorded its best-ever first-half sales performance in 2026, delivering 9,768 vehicles between January and June, representing a 9% year-on-year increase.
The company’s Top-End Luxury portfolio also registered over 20% growth and accounted for 28% of total sales during the period. According to Mercedes-Benz, the impressive growth of the AMG division played an important role in achieving these record-breaking numbers.
Buyers Want Performance With Everyday Practicality
According to Iyer, customer expectations in the luxury performance segment are evolving rapidly. Buyers now prefer vehicles that deliver thrilling performance while offering electric driving capability and practicality for daily commuting.
He noted that many customers want a vehicle capable of delivering an engaging driving experience on a race track during weekends while remaining comfortable and efficient enough for everyday office commutes.
This shift in consumer preference has encouraged Mercedes-Benz to develop performance models that balance speed, luxury, efficiency, and advanced electrification technologies.
Electrification to Drive AMG’s Next Phase
Mercedes-Benz believes electrification will further strengthen the AMG brand rather than redefine it. While AMG has built its reputation on delivering exceptional driving performance for nearly six decades, the company says modern buyers also expect greater efficiency and advanced hybrid technology.
The recently launched AMG E 53 Hybrid 4MATIC+ reflects this philosophy by combining a high-performance powertrain with plug-in hybrid technology.
Multiple Powertrains to Remain Part of India Strategy
Looking ahead, Mercedes-Benz India will continue following its powertrain-agnostic strategy, allowing customers to choose from petrol, diesel, plug-in hybrid, and fully electric vehicles based on their requirements.
The company believes India’s premium automobile market will continue to adopt multiple propulsion technologies simultaneously, making a diverse product portfolio essential for future growth. With more AMG models in the pipeline, Mercedes-Benz aims to strengthen its leadership in India’s growing luxury performance car segment.
