Next-Gen Tata Nexon EV Spied Up Close: New Design, Bigger Range and What to Expect

Tata Motors is working on the next-generation Tata Nexon EV, and the electric SUV has now been spotted on a flatbed truck in heavily camouflaged form. The latest sighting gives a closer look at the upcoming model and confirms its electric powertrain through the visible battery enclosure and orange high-voltage wiring.

The new Nexon EV is expected to arrive in 2027 alongside the next-generation ICE Nexon. Tata could use the new generation to make major improvements to the SUV’s design, battery technology, range and charging performance. The model will continue to play an important role in Tata’s electric car lineup.

Next-Gen Tata Nexon EV: What’s New?

The latest spy images reveal several important details about the next-generation Tata Nexon EV. The biggest highlight is the large battery enclosure visible underneath the vehicle. Orange high-voltage cables can also be seen around the battery pack, confirming that this prototype uses an electric powertrain. Tata has heavily camouflaged the exterior, but the overall silhouette is clearly different from the current Nexon EV.

The upcoming Nexon appears to adopt a more upright and boxier design. The roofline looks flatter, while the rear windscreen and tailgate appear more upright than before. This could give the SUV a more traditional stance and potentially improve rear-seat headroom and luggage space. The prototype also features conventional door handles and prominent wheel arches. Earlier test vehicles have hinted at larger 18-inch alloy wheels.

The next-gen Nexon EV could also receive a larger battery pack than the current model. Tata currently offers 30kWh and 45kWh battery options, with the larger version offering a claimed range of up to 489km. Reports suggest the next-generation model could offer standard- and extended-range versions with estimated ranges of around 300km and 550km, respectively. However, Tata has not confirmed the battery capacity, range or charging specifications yet.

The cabin should also receive a major redesign, with newer screens, updated controls and more technology expected. The next-gen Nexon could use a heavily reworked version of Tata’s existing platform, although the exact architecture remains unconfirmed.

Next-Gen Tata Nexon EV Price and Rivals

The current Tata Nexon EV costs between Rs. 12.49 lakh and Rs. 17.89 lakh, ex-showroom. The next-generation model should command a premium, but Tata could maintain competitive pricing. Its rivals will include the Mahindra XUV 3XO EV and upcoming Hyundai compact EV.
