Toyota’s 9th-Gen Hilux Arriving in India Pricier Than Current Range: Here’s Everything You Need to Know
Toyota is gearing up to launch the ninth-generation Hilux in India next month, bringing a comprehensive update to its lifestyle pickup truck. The new model, which made its global debut last year, is expected to arrive with a sharper design, a more premium cabin, advanced safety technologies and improved powertrain options.
Along with these upgrades, the pickup is also likely to command a higher price than the outgoing model, positioning it firmly in the premium lifestyle utility vehicle segment.
With limited competition in India, Toyota aims to make the new Hilux even more appealing to adventure enthusiasts, off-road enthusiasts and buyers looking for a rugged yet comfortable utility vehicle.

Bolder Design with Premium Road Presence
The ninth-generation Hilux adopts Toyota’s latest global design language, featuring a wider honeycomb-pattern front grille, sleeker LED headlamps with distinctive daytime running lights, a muscular front bumper and a sculpted bonnet.
The side profile remains rugged with flared wheel arches, while the rear gets redesigned LED taillamps and a revised tailgate. New alloy wheel designs and fresh exterior paint options further enhance its premium appeal.
Despite the styling overhaul, the Hilux retains its proven body-on-frame architecture and legendary off-road capability.
Powertrain Expected to Get Mild-Hybrid Assistance
Toyota is expected to continue offering its reliable 2.8-litre four-cylinder turbo-diesel engine in India. Internationally, the engine is paired with a 48V mild-hybrid system that improves fuel efficiency, low-end torque delivery and overall refinement.
The powertrain is expected to produce around 204 hp and up to 500 Nm of torque, coupled with six-speed manual and six-speed automatic transmission options. Toyota’s capable four-wheel-drive system, multiple terrain modes and electronic differential lock are also expected to remain part of the package.
Cabin Gets a Major Technology Upgrade
The new Hilux is expected to receive a completely refreshed interior inspired by Toyota’s latest global SUV lineup. Buyers can expect a larger touchscreen infotainment system, a fully digital instrument cluster, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, wireless charging and connected car technology.
The cabin is also likely to feature premium upholstery, ventilated front seats, dual-zone climate control and a panoramic camera system. Higher variants could additionally offer Toyota Safety Sense ADAS features for improved driver assistance and occupant safety.
Expected Price and Rivals
The updated Hilux is expected to be priced from around Rs 35 lakh (ex-showroom), making it more expensive than the current model. In India, it will continue to rival the Isuzu V-Cross, while premium lifestyle SUVs such as the Jeep Meridian, Toyota Fortuner and MG Gloster will remain indirect alternatives.
Why This Story Matters
The arrival of the ninth-generation Hilux marks Toyota’s continued focus on India’s premium lifestyle vehicle segment. With upgraded technology, improved comfort, enhanced safety and the possibility of electrified diesel technology, the new pickup is expected to attract both existing Hilux owners and new buyers.
Although the expected price hike may place it further into the premium category, the comprehensive upgrades could make it one of the most desirable lifestyle pickup trucks available in the Indian market.
