New Volkswagen Virtus Facelift Launch Likely in December 2026: What to Expect

Volkswagen is preparing to launch the Volkswagen Virtus Facelift in India, with the updated sedan expected to arrive in December 2026. The upcoming Volkswagen Virtus facelift will bring styling changes, additional features and a revised automatic gearbox for the 1.0-litre TSI engine.

The facelift follows the recent update received by its sibling, the Skoda Slavia. Test mules have already been spotted several times, revealing some of the changes planned for the new model.

Volkswagen is expected to retain the Virtus’ existing turbo-petrol engines while focusing on exterior design and cabin upgrades. The facelift could help the sedan remain competitive against the Hyundai Verna, Honda City and Skoda Slavia.

Volkswagen Virtus Facelift: Design

The Volkswagen Virtus facelift is expected to receive its biggest changes at the front and rear. The sedan could get slimmer LED headlamps, a redesigned grille and a sharper front bumper. A full-width LED light bar connecting the headlamps and an illuminated Volkswagen logo could give the Virtus a look similar to the facelifted Taigun.

The side profile is likely to remain largely unchanged, including its familiar character lines and door design. Volkswagen could introduce new alloy wheel designs and additional exterior colour options. At the rear, revised LED tail-lamps, an illuminated logo and a redesigned bumper are expected.

Volkswagen Virtus Facelift Powertrain

The Volkswagen Virtus facelift is expected to continue with the existing 1.0-litre and 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engines. The 1.0-litre TSI produces 115 PS and 178 Nm and will continue with a six-speed manual gearbox.

However, Volkswagen is expected to replace the existing six-speed automatic with a new eight-speed torque-converter automatic transmission.

The 1.5-litre TSI continues to produce 150 PS and 250 Nm and is expected to remain available with a six-speed manual and seven-speed DSG automatic gearbox. No major engine changes are expected with the facelift.

Cabin and Safety Features

The Virtus facelift is expected to receive minor cabin changes rather than a completely new dashboard. Volkswagen could introduce revised upholstery and interior colour themes along with an updated digital instrument cluster. The existing 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system is expected to continue, while the digital driver’s display could grow from 8 inches to around 10.25 inches.

Other expected equipment includes ventilated front seats, electrically adjustable seats, automatic climate control, ambient lighting, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and Type-C charging ports. Safety equipment should continue to include six airbags, electronic stability control, hill-hold assist, multi-collision braking, rear parking sensors and TPMS. A 360-degree camera could also be added.

Expected Price and Rivals

The current Volkswagen Virtus costs Rs. 10.71 lakh to Rs. 19.20 lakh, ex-showroom. The facelift could receive a slight price increase, although Volkswagen may retain the existing starting price. It will rival the Hyundai Verna, Honda City and Skoda Slavia.
