Do You Know About the Honda City Hatchback?
The Honda City is one of the most familiar names in the Indian car market, but do you know that Honda also sells a Honda City Hatchback in some international markets?
The Honda City Hatchback combines the styling and mechanical package of the City sedan with a shorter five-door body. It offers a more compact design while retaining the practicality of a hatchback.
The model is already available in markets such as Thailand and the Philippines, but Honda does not currently list the City Hatchback in its India portfolio. This raises an interesting question: could Honda consider bringing the City Hatchback to India in the future?
Here is what we know about the model.

Honda City Hatchback Design: What Does It Look Like?
The Honda City Hatchback carries a design closely related to the City sedan. At the front, it gets a similar grille, sharp LED headlamps and a sculpted bumper. The biggest change comes after the front doors, where the sedan’s extended boot has been replaced by a compact hatchback tail. The five-door layout gives the car a more practical urban profile.
The rear gets wraparound tail lamps, a roof spoiler and a compact tailgate. Depending on the market and variant, Honda also offers sportier styling elements, alloy wheels and RS-specific exterior details. The cabin follows the City family design with a modern dashboard, touchscreen infotainment system and practical seating layout.
Honda City Hatchback Powertrain and Mileage
The Honda City Hatchback is offered with a 1.5-litre four-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine in markets where it is sold. The engine uses Honda’s i-VTEC technology and can be paired with a CVT automatic transmission.
The Philippine-market City Hatchback RS, for example, gets a 1.5-litre DOHC i-VTEC engine with a CVT and paddle shifters. Honda also offers ECON mode to improve fuel efficiency during everyday driving.
The exact power and mileage figures vary according to market and specification. For comparison, the India-spec Honda City uses a 1.5-litre petrol engine producing 121 PS and 145 Nm, with claimed mileage of up to 17.97 kmpl with the CVT.
Expected Price and Rivals in India
If Honda brings the City Hatchback to India, its price could sit around the Rs. 12 lakh to Rs. 16 lakh range, depending on localisation and variant positioning.
It could compete with premium hatchbacks and compact sedans, although Honda has not confirmed an India launch. The Hyundai i20, Maruti Suzuki Baleno and Toyota Glanza could be among its potential market alternatives.
