Jeep Compass Sport Diesel Automatic Launched at Rs. 21.99 Lakh

Jeep India has launched the Jeep Compass Sport diesel automatic in India at Rs. 21.99 lakh (ex-showroom). The new variant brings a nine-speed automatic gearbox to the entry-level Sport trim for the first time, making it the most affordable automatic version of the Compass in the Indian market.

It uses the familiar 2.0-litre MultiJet II turbo-diesel engine and sends power to the front wheels. The new variant also adds six airbags, cruise control and Auto Hold, along with a touchscreen infotainment system that supports wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Customer deliveries will begin in the second week of November 2026.

Jeep Compass Sport Diesel Automatic: Price and Delivery

Jeep has priced the new Compass Sport 9AT at Rs. 21.99 lakh (ex-showroom). The new variant gives buyers a more affordable route into the automatic Compass range without requiring them to upgrade to a higher trim. Jeep will begin customer deliveries in the second week of November 2026 through its dealerships and Stellantis Brand Houses across India.

Buyers can also choose an optional accessory pack for Rs. 29,900. The package includes ambient lighting, a dashcam with predictive safety features, a Swoosh exterior decal, all-weather floor mats and mud flaps.

Jeep Compass Sport Automatic: Engine and Gearbox

The new Jeep Compass Sport automatic uses a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder MultiJet II turbo-diesel engine. It produces 170hp and 350Nm of peak torque, matching the output of other diesel variants in the Compass lineup.

Jeep pairs this engine with a nine-speed torque-converter automatic gearbox. The transmission sends power to the front wheels, making the Sport 9AT a front-wheel-drive SUV rather than a four-wheel-drive model.

The nine-speed gearbox replaces the six-speed manual transmission that previously served as the only option on the entry-level Sport trim. The automatic setup should appeal to buyers who regularly drive through city traffic but still want the pulling power of a diesel engine. Jeep has not announced a separate fuel-efficiency figure for the new variant.

Jeep Compass Sport Diesel: Exterior Design and Features

The Jeep Compass Sport 9AT retains the familiar exterior design of the entry-level Sport trim. It gets LED headlamps with LED daytime running lights, chrome window surrounds, 17-inch silver-finished alloy wheels and black outside rear-view mirror housings with integrated turn indicators.

Other exterior elements include a rear spoiler and a shark-fin antenna. Jeep has not announced major styling changes for the automatic variant, so buyers get the established Compass design rather than a separate edition with a redesigned body.

The optional accessory pack adds a Swoosh decal along the body, including the rear pillar area. It also includes mud flaps, giving buyers additional personalisation options.

Cabin and Technology Features

The Compass Sport 9AT features a dark cabin theme with grey fabric inserts on the dashboard and door pads. The seats use fabric upholstery with blue stitching.

The infotainment system includes an 8.4-inch Uconnect touchscreen with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The SUV also gets a four-speaker sound system, a 3.5-inch digital instrument cluster, steering-mounted controls and electrically adjustable outside rear-view mirrors.

The automatic variant also adds Auto Hold and cruise control over the manual Sport trim. Buyers who select the optional accessory pack receive ambient lighting and a dashcam with predictive safety features.

Safety Features

Jeep has equipped the Compass Sport automatic with six airbags. The safety package also includes electronic stability control, traction control, hill-start assist, tyre pressure monitoring, ISOFIX child-seat anchors and a reversing camera with rear parking sensors.

The SUV also gets an electronic parking brake with Auto Hold, which can help keep the vehicle stationary without continuous brake-pedal input. Cruise control adds convenience on highways.

Jeep has retained its Frequency Selective Damping (FSD) suspension and Dynamic Steering Torque (DST) system. FSD suspension adjusts damping characteristics to help balance ride comfort and body control, while DST supports steering response. The optional dashcam pack adds another layer of convenience for buyers who want to record their journeys.

Jeep Compass Sport Automatic: Price and Rivals

The new Jeep Compass Sport 9AT costs Rs. 21.99 lakh (ex-showroom). It competes in the premium SUV market, where buyers can also consider the Mahindra XUV700, Tata Harrier and other SUVs in a similar price bracket.

However, the Compass Sport automatic follows a different approach by combining a diesel engine with a nine-speed automatic gearbox in the entry-level trim. Buyers should compare variant-specific prices, equipment and drivetrain configurations before choosing between these SUVs.

Why the New Jeep Compass Automatic Matters?

The launch of the Jeep Compass Sport 9AT expands the model’s appeal by bringing an automatic gearbox to its entry-level trim. Previously, buyers who wanted an automatic Compass had to consider a higher variant. The new option reduces that entry point to Rs. 21.99 lakh (ex-showroom).

The update also addresses the growing demand for automatic SUVs, particularly among customers who drive regularly in congested urban conditions. The 2.0-litre diesel engine, nine-speed gearbox and front-wheel-drive configuration give the new variant a clear mechanical identity, while six airbags, Auto Hold and cruise control add useful equipment.

The new variant does not introduce a major exterior redesign or a different engine. Instead, Jeep focuses on making the existing Compass package more accessible to buyers who prefer an automatic transmission. Deliveries are scheduled to begin in November 2026.
