JSW Greentech Launches AMPSTAR EV Brand for Electric Buses and Trucks

JSW Greentech has entered India’s electric commercial vehicle market with its new AMPSTAR brand. The company will develop and manufacture electric buses and trucks under the new brand.

AMPSTAR will also offer charging infrastructure, financing, operating solutions and after-sales support. JSW says the brand will provide a complete commercial mobility solution instead of only selling electric vehicles.

The company has designed AMPSTAR vehicles for Indian roads and operating conditions.

AMPSTAR Electric Bus and Truck Range

JSW Greentech plans to offer electric buses ranging from 7 metres to 18 metres. These buses will target staff transportation, city travel, intercity routes and school transport.

The company will initially start its electric truck portfolio with a 55-tonne tractor-trailer. It also plans to add electric tippers and fixed-body dump trucks in the future. The planned AMPSTAR range will offer power configurations between 150kW and 500kW.

Battery and Technology

JSW Greentech says it has developed the drivetrain base logic, software and control algorithms in-house. This setup will allow the company to configure its electric commercial vehicles according to different customer requirements.

The vehicles will use a double-cooling battery system and a high-strength monocoque chassis. JSW says these systems will help the vehicles handle different Indian road and weather conditions.

Manufacturing and Capacity

AMPSTAR vehicles will come from JSW Greentech’s upcoming 90-acre manufacturing facility at AURIC in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Maharashtra. The plant will have an annual capacity of 10,000 electric buses and 5,000 electric trucks, giving it a combined capacity of 15,000 vehicles.

The facility will also feature an integrated battery ecosystem, an automated truck-cabin production line and a pre-treatment and electro-deposition process for bus manufacturing. JSW Greentech also operates an R&D centre in Pune.

Complete EV Mobility Solution

AMPSTAR will offer different ownership options, including outright purchase, leasing and Battery as a Service (BaaS). Customers will also get access to charging infrastructure, financing and after-sales support.

JSW says this approach will help fleet operators manage the shift from conventional commercial vehicles to electric mobility. The company has developed AMPSTAR in around 16 months while focusing on the requirements of fleet operators.

AMPSTAR Price and Launch Timeline

JSW Greentech has not announced prices for its AMPSTAR electric buses and trucks yet. The company will initially focus on commercial vehicles, with the first products covering buses and a 55-tonne electric tractor-trailer.

With its 15,000-unit annual manufacturing capacity and in-house EV technology, AMPSTAR marks JSW Greentech’s entry into India’s growing electric commercial vehicle segment.
