Mahindra Vision T Prototype Spied Testing for the First Time: Expected Features, Price and Rivals

Mahindra has started testing its upcoming Mahindra Vision T SUV on Indian roads for the first time. The heavily camouflaged prototype gives the first clear look at the production development of the SUV, which could become the electric successor to the Thar.e concept.

Mahindra showcased the Vision T in 2025 as an evolution of the Thar.e concept revealed in 2023. The upcoming SUV will use Mahindra’s new NU_IQ platform, which can support multiple powertrains.

The company has not yet confirmed the final name, specifications or launch date. However, the first spy shots reveal several important details about its design and expected positioning.

The Vision T prototype appeared on Indian roads with heavy camouflage, but its overall shape remains easy to identify. The test vehicle follows the boxy and upright design language shown by the Vision T concept. It features a flat bonnet, upright windscreen, squared wheel arches and chunky body cladding. The prototype also appears to have a five-door layout and a rear-mounted spare wheel, giving it a practical yet rugged SUV character.

The production model could retain several Vision T design elements while adopting a more conventional body for easier manufacturing. The SUV will use the NU_IQ architecture instead of the ladder-frame platform used by the current Thar. Mahindra has confirmed that vehicles based on this new platform will enter production from 2027.

Mahindra Vision T Expected Features

The Mahindra Vision T is expected to offer a strong combination of rugged styling, modern technology and electric performance. The prototype points towards a five-door layout, which should provide easier access to the rear seats and make the SUV more practical for everyday use.

The cabin could get a digital instrument cluster, a large touchscreen infotainment system and a modern dashboard layout. Earlier Vision T design previews featured a large portrait-style touchscreen, while the test vehicle appears to use a more production-friendly cabin.

The SUV will sit on Mahindra’s NU_IQ platform. The architecture supports petrol, diesel, hybrid and fully electric powertrains, along with front-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive configurations. For the Vision T-based model, Mahindra is expected to focus on an electric powertrain. However, the company has not confirmed the battery capacity, motor output, driving range or charging specifications yet.

The new platform could also bring independent rear suspension, marking a major change from the current Thar’s ladder-frame construction. An AWD version could further improve the SUV’s off-road ability and give it a more capable electric lifestyle-SUV character.

Mahindra Vision T Expected Price and Rivals

The Mahindra Vision T is expected to launch in India around 2027. Its estimated price could start at around Rs. 18 lakh and go up to Rs. 20 lakh (ex-showroom). The SUV could compete with models such as the Tata Curvv EV, Hyundai Creta Electric and MG ZS EV, although its rugged design and possible AWD setup could give it a different position in the segment.
